Just driving home on the highway and something hit my front windshield near the top middle of it. It was damn LOUD, I thought someone shot a hole through the roof!

It is about the size of a silver dollar maybe a little bigger, but not spider cracking yet.

Anyway I found this article about replacing windshields, windshield-repair-faq-t245958.html

and was wondering if anyone in the Chicago area has had to have their windshield replaced and where they went? If I got to the Nissan dealer they will for sure give me an OEM Nissan windshield correct?

Anyone know how much this might cost? I don't think my insurance will cover it unless I use my deductible. Would my insurance rate go up if I did?

I don't live in your area but I'd recommend calling a few auto glass shops and get a quote over the phone so you at least know what type of cost you're looking at for replacement. Glass shops can also do some amazing repairs on windshields, your large crack may be beyond what they can repair but you don't know until you ask, so actually the first step I'd recommend is stopping by a shop or two and asking if it's possible to repair, and while you're there you can get a quote on a full replacement too.

And of course if anyone in the Chicago area can recommend a good shop that's even better!

Generally, if a is a chip/crack smaller in size than a US dollar bill, they can 'fill' it in with a special liquid, and it usually looks like nothing happened.
However, you want to try to get your Rogue in to get that repaired ASAP. The longer you wait, the more warming/cooling cycles the car goes through (in addition to road bumps/vibrations from driving), and the more likely it is for that crack to turn into something much larger. I got a chip while driving on the highway last winter at -20 F. Then within the span of a mile, as I was entering town, the temperature went all the way up to 5 degrees F. *CRACK*
Got another one a few months later that was a small crack. I ignored it, and then it spread half-way across the windshield one night.
Moral of the story: get that crack/chip filled asap. It is summer, so the temperature changes aren't as harsh, but I still wouldn't chance it.

Your insurance might include a policy for rock chips. If so, then you can probably walk in and walk out of the glass shop w/o paying a dime. If you don't know about it, they can determine what your coverage is there at the shop. If you have to pay out of pocket, it should run somewhere around $100 US. At least that's what it runs here and every service here costs more.

Also, for reference, I was quoted $384 US for a replacement windshield through the glass shop.

I just called my Nissan dealer and they said they contract the job out, and just a regular windshield would cost $394 an OEM one would cost $860!!

My windshield had a quarter size crack last year as well. I created an online claim at my insurance company (Geico), they had an option for crack windshield on the claim form, they sent a company (safelite or something like that) to my home to fix it. Also, I did not had to pay a cent to either to the guy (well, I gave a tip to him) or a deductible. My insurance rate has not increased (they had this as FAQ in the claim help website) as well. It is worth a try.
