Heh, somebody didn't get no-deductible comprehensive...it's actually cheap if you run a $1000 collision deductible, and you get glass for free. $350 actually isn't that much for a windshield - there's several grades of glass, sure you can score a cheapo for $150, but the lamination is going to be sub-par, the imact resistance won't be optimal, and the clarity will probably suffer too. I've gone through two windshields on Long Island, the first one was cheap - it had a ripple right across my field of view, and it actually started delaminating in the corner. It got taken out by a pebble, I had a $400 replacement installed, absolute top of the line glass..amazing. This is your windshield, it's as important a piece of equipment as your steering wheel...don't skimp. and have it installed, DIY auto glass *always* leaks, or at least I've never seen a self-install that doesn't.
