I have a crack in my windshield, dont know how I got it.

Do any of you guys know what a decent price would be... I got a quote for 350$ and think it is too much.

Also I live in tallahassee and if anyone's looking to sell their old windshield somewhere around there, lemme know.

Heh, somebody didn't get no-deductible comprehensive...it's actually cheap if you run a $1000 collision deductible, and you get glass for free. $350 actually isn't that much for a windshield - there's several grades of glass, sure you can score a cheapo for $150, but the lamination is going to be sub-par, the imact resistance won't be optimal, and the clarity will probably suffer too. I've gone through two windshields on Long Island, the first one was cheap - it had a ripple right across my field of view, and it actually started delaminating in the corner. It got taken out by a pebble, I had a $400 replacement installed, absolute top of the line glass..amazing. This is your windshield, it's as important a piece of equipment as your steering wheel...don't skimp. and have it installed, DIY auto glass *always* leaks, or at least I've never seen a self-install that doesn't.

eh yeah I had to have mine replaced when I bought my car... I think it was like $300 or so with the install. I have glass insurance now though, so anything that breaks from now on will be covered. Heh sometimes I think about just breaking my rear hatch glass and having it replaced... Its all nasty from the junkyard... but noooo that would be wrong...

I got my cracked windshield replaced and installed for $100, and he did it while my car was in the shop anyways.

I called AutoLite glass replacement a couple months back to get a cash price quote. To come to my work, remove and install both the windshield and driver side 1/4 glass was over $900. Keep in mind this was on a 92 HUD model. I was warned about the price of the HUD windshield, and hopefully when my real quest begins to find one, I'll luck out and get a salvage.

My Dad removed the windshield from his Chevy G20 when I was younger, but had a shop install the new glass. Installation is really not too expensive, and when it comes to a piece of _safety_ equipment, I personally would leave it up to a pro. Plus if it leaks or has other problems they are acountable. I surely wouldn't want to re-seal/risk breaking the windshield a second time.

Good luck,-Jamie
