Hey everyone,

My valve stem on rear passenger tire has a crack right down the side of the stem...brutal as it now leaks and I have to fill it every other day to keep the stupid warning light and signal going off. First question, has anyone else had this problem? Second, I was wondering if I can replace just the stem and not the sensor or if it's a one piece unit? I contacted the Dealership and they want $220 for just the part. The guy told me to contact just a local parts store cause they would have it for way cheaper. The parts store I phoned said they no longer carry the part needed.

I've found a few different parts online, but not completely sure if they are compatible with the OEM sensor. The one in question that I would like to work is... http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/2003-n ... alve-stem/

hope someone can weigh in on this, so I can fix it asap.

thanks,

SC2NR

you'll have to replace the entire sensor. the sensor is a single unit with an integrated metal valve stem.

the sensor, itself, shouldn't be that expensive. maybe about $100-$150 for a factory Schrader sensor (what most factory sensors are), and the reprogram isn't too difficult. takes me about 15 minutes to reprogram for most of the japanese vehicles.

honestly, check with a Costco Tire Center. see how much they'll charge you for a new sensor, installation, and reprogram. we (i work at a Costco Tire Center) should only be charging cost of sensor, installation ($14), and the reprogram is basically free. most employees should be very well versed with TPMS equipped vehicles. we go through quite a bit of training from the companies about the systems and should have all the proper tools to reprogram the vehicle.
