So today I brought my car to a tire shop because it had a flat. Turns out to be a cracked rim and was leaking. I had a shop put new tires on 2 weeks ago and i think they cracked it while trying to put the new tires on.

Is a crack on the innerside of rim repairable? Or do I have to get a new rim? they are 18" 350z rims

I called a wheel shop and they said they can repair it but it'll cost me from 90-100 + 15 for the unmounting and all that other stuff

DAMNITT!!!!! more money i gotta spend

No you should not trust somebody else's aluminum welding skills with your life. As it turns out, 35 or 40 psi in your tire has enough potential energy to lift your vehicle off the ground, or when driving, send you out of control in the event of a failure.

Never expose an aluminum wheel to fatigue from welding. This is rule #1. Need a replacement.

I had a wheel that had a weld in it and drove if for about a year or so without anything going wrong. It was part of the inner lip that was welded... I mean, the wheel alignment was never perfect again.. but it never leaked and I've gone though like 4-5 tires on them (because of tire use, had nothing to do with the weld) with no worries. But I guess thats the risk I took.

How big is the crack?

Thanks for your input guys..

I took my wheel to a repair shop and decided to get it repaired. The crack was on the inner side of the wheel and is not more than an inch down the side..maybe half an inch. The guy mounted it on the spinner and showed me why it cracked..the wheel was bent.

I don't know what i ran over..must have been weeks ago since it doesnt deflate that fast..it was still at 42psi this morning and i pumped it up yesterday morning

$130 for the repair

I also asked if how much it was to repair the curb rashes..$200/wheel!!He said that the wheel color's paint is expensive about $400/gallon for hyper silver

man that sucks! i had a cracked rim but i got it repaired for free when i bought a new tire. in the end everything only cost me $125 including 18" tire, mounting, balancing, and repair.

jb weld..damn i should have thought of that. it probably would have worked too since the crack didnt look that bad..but then again the wheel was bent.

well..i got my wheel back today..looks he did a good job. here are some pics...

We'll see how long it'll hold up.

And i think i found out why it cracked..probably bumped up and hit the coilovers..im looking into some wheel spacers.

anyone have any suggestions on what kind (brand) of wheels spacers would be good? the tire is maybe half an inch from the coils.

would a 10mm or 15mm be good?

ive heard bad things about spacers (discount tire doesent work on em period) there prolly fine but wouldnt the tire hit the coilover? not to second guess u too much but we often see cracked rims on stock cars u may not need spacers
