Hi All,

I just found out I have a small crack in my rim that is causing my tire to leak. I had to fill the tire three times the last 2 weeks.

What is the cheapest/fastest/best way to fix this?

Thanks

I would call you local dealership and see who they use for wheel repair... most have a "guy in a van" that comes by once a week to fix curb rash, etc. I don't know if they can fix cracks though... that's kind of rare. I would also check to see if you can find a used one in good condition on http://www.car-part.com in your area. Might be cheaper.

Buy the wheel I have on ebay. Or buy another wheel, most repairs are about $100-$200.

Hey bullittandy,

That looks to be exactly what I am looking for. I have a 2000 I30t. Will give you a bidder.

I'm not recommending this for a long-term fix but a couple of years ago I used JB Weld on a cracked 300zx alloy rim and it held great for the few weeks it took to get a replacement rim. Let the air out of the tire so the epoxy can flow into the crack. It cures in a couple of hours.

I haven't heard of OEM wheels cracking at all, the wheels on the car are OEM recommended right?

There was a recall on the 5 spoke 17x7.5 t model wheel in 1999-2000 of a certain VIN.

I don't know if this extended to the 17x7 I3x wheels. Might want to check with your dealer.

Caveat emptor!

Thanks, it is a hairline crack on the edge of the rim near the tire. They are the original I30t rims that came with the car.

Call the dealer with your VIN.

I gave the dealer a call and they said they did not see any recalls for the car at all. Is there a way to check online?

Yeah, you can download the TSB from

http://www.infiniti-techinfo.com

for a $20 one day fee.

Check at

http://www.infinitihelp.com

But their TSB are not OEM complete.

There should be a government site for recalls also, but not TSB.

The I30 wheels may not be part of the recal, but I woudl be surprised. If there is no sign of impact damage, they may be covered under the extended drive train warranty. Might be worth a call to Infinti Customer service.

You should register with them as the current owner anyway.
