I was driving home after getting off work and 2 blocks before reaching my house, my S14 begins to get really loud and shakey. Then my S14 started sounding really wicked, as if I was running open-headers every time I revved; so thinking quick, I decided to pop the car into neutral and coast my way home on the momentum I had. Luckily I had enough to park the car right into my drive way. I left the car on and opened the hood only to almost get knocked out by the carbon monoxide/exhaust fumes. Then I run towards the back of my car and put my hand up to the muffler tips and felt no pressure.

I let my S14 cool off after 2 hours. Jacked the car up and decided to investigate. Here's what I saw:

So now I'm in a jam.

I'm broke as a joke right now, because I spent most of my money earlier this week on new tie rods and tension rods. I think I'll probably just tow it to a muffler shop and have it welded. However, my question is; would it be ok if I just chopped off that entire part of the exhaust piping and have a new pipe welded on in its place? Like, from where the breakage occured to right before the 2nd O2 sensor (I think that's what it is), just chop that whole thing off and have a straight pipe in it's place welded to the catalyic coverter? Would the check engine light come on if I did that? :help

I'm uncertain too. Because there are some people who installed the Hooker headers on their S14 and it requires the removal of that part in question.. I'm not sure if they get a check engine light because of it. DAMN..

if you cant duct it, fuct it......

just drive it around like that, you wont have to waste money on an exhaust... j/kexhaust tape 5.00 wrap it up and when you save 150 bux, get a catco cat, and have fun putting it on!or, pay more for an exhaust shop to weld it up

if you were to replace that first cat you may still have a second one in the middle of your car as well. In some cars however (mine for example) the "second cat" is not actually a cat it is merely fake and looks like one. The first cat that your showing though is ALWAYS a real cat and your definitely gonna need that if you plan on keeping your car emissions legal. and by the way, it is against the law for ANY muffler or exhaust shop to remove/"fix"/alter/ or modify ANY part of the cat and it's components unless the cat is broken then it can be replaced. Im pretty sure no muffler shop (at least in ca) would weld you a straight pipe with no cat. by the way driving around with that split won't hurt anytying, your car will just be hella loud forever.

Took the car in and got one of these badboys installed~! Uncorked a lot of power~! What a huge difference a simple 18'' long 2 1/4'' wide pipe does for the car.

Two Andrew Jacksons was enough persuade them into doing it. And it was worth it, big difference in performance and weight. The stock cat weighs in at 6 lbs and the test pipe, a mere 13 ounces. Not a big difference, but just another good reason to take it off.
