2001 altima 180 km , my dad was driving it heard a weird noise but he was running late to work so he didn't stop, he calls me after he gets off work to check it out , the idler pulley for the accessory belt snapped off , so we got the car home , the car obviously was overheating crazy

i installed the new idler pulley hoping no other damage was done , but the car started to over heat , the radiator cab had bubbles coming out and when it gets worm it would start to shoot out.

checked the compression it was all good 150 all cylinders

so i assumed it was a head gasket and went out 2 day job and changed the head gasket .

guess what didn't fix the problem , when the car started , it was all normal and after 2 min it over heated , i opened the radiator cap and steam shot out like no tomorrow , so i turned the car off let it cool down , when i turn the car on with out the radiator cap on .. it just shoots out steam and coolant , but it doesn't over heat , as soon as the cap goes on it over heats ,

i checked the compression again its still good , no sign of coolant in the oil , and no white smoke in the exhaust ......

guys help me please what is the issue ?

If he drove the car while it was overheating, there's a decent chance that the block is cracked or the head is warped but say he doesn't have the symptoms of those things. You need to ask yourself a couple of questions to bring up some more info (not listed in any particular order):Did you check the block with a straight edge before installing the new head gasket?Did you have the head machined flat before installing the new head gasket?Did you use gasket sealer if called for?Did you overtighten the head bolts or torque them to spec?Did you tighten the head bolts in the correct sequence? Is there air in the coolant system?Did you bleed the coolant system when you installed the head gasket the first time? Are you using the correct type of coolant and/or the right mix (50/50, pre-diluted, etc)?Have you checked the thermostat for proper functioning? Is your fan turning on?

no i didn't check the block with a straight edge the head wasn't machined gasket sealer was used when called for head bolts were torqued with a torque wrench correct sequence i followed the manual air in the cooling ? it starts to over heat in no time , tried bleeding but it ends up over heating yes correct type of coolant fan turns on no problem

You need to get a leakdown compression test done. It may be 150 static pressure, but with that much pressure in the radiator, it is probably leaking down very rapidly. Sounds like a cracked head to me, or it was warped pretty bad due to overheating and not having it machined is the culprit.

so i found an engine in good condition decent millage for 300$ ... the guy says to come take it out , I'm just wondering guys how hard is this going to be because i saw somewhere that its hard to pull the engine from the top , can anyone explain to me why

also aside from disconnecting both drive shafts , disconnection wiring and fuel lines and engine mounts , is there any more work to be done , I'm going to be doing this three times because i have to take his out and mine than install in mine

any special tools i need i have almost everything just need to get a hold of the sockets to take out the drive shaft bolts i think they are like 32 or 34 mm

thanks guys

Harnesses, fuel lines, exhaust system, then when you get it all out, you have to separate the transmission from the engine. It's bad enough with a lift and pulling from the bottom, even worse from the top.
