Ok, obviously I am new to the boards(just check my post count), so I wasn't sure if I should ask here or the mechanic board. Anyway here is the deal" I had a '90 240 cpe and totalled it, long story, and just picked up a '90 240 fsb. Well, the guy I bought it from said he just "redid the head" and mummbled somthing about still having oil issues. I got it home (hauled of course) and checked the oil, it has coolant in it. Then I pulled the valve cover, there was a white goo everywhere, rust forming on the little arms for the valves (technical huh?). Now, I know the KA has a cast iron block and all this points to the head but is there anyway this could be a cracked block? Anyway to check? If nothing else I am either going to pull the head and replace it/test the old one, or pull the whole engine but I'd appreciate some input before I get in over my head too fast.

Atleast I got a good deal on a shell if nothin else.

cast iron blocks dont really crack.. sounds like the guy screwed the headgasket... or bad oil pump.

blocks dont really crack, if anything a rod shot thru the side.. which is something you kinda notice :)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. Hopefully I can pull the head soon and get a better look at it. Thanks again.

It is not neccisarily the head gasket. If the guy said he redid the head I would first check the front cover. The sohc motors have a tendency to let the chain go slack and rub right though the cover. Usually right around where teh water pump is.
