My 07 Z now has 15k miles on the clock and I've noticed an inch long crack in the lower section of the drivers seat. These are the burnt orange leather seats and the crack is barely noticeable, but I'm certain it will only get worse. Does anybody know if the dealer will/should honor a crack in the leather?

This is definitely not something my pants should have caused, and my previous DD (2003 Audi A4) had over 50k miles on it without any issues with the seat wearing excessively.

I noticed seat covers for sale on ebay for upwards of 500 dollars in the orange leather option. These seat covers also come with a 3yr/36k mile coverage, which spawned my suspicions about the factory warranty potentially covering the seat.

I doubt its covered if it occurred out of wear and tear. And an A4's seats may not be a great comparison. The 350Z is lower and has much higher seat bolsters which makes it a bit tougher to get in and out of. The tendency is to wear the outer bolsters on these such seats/cars. Even the center area can be subject to more wear and tear as people tend to push against it with their arms as they get in and out.

That said, it certainly couldn't hurt to try and get a dealer to cover it.

I stopped by the dealer and they said that because it looks like something cut into the leather they will not replace it under warranty. If it were split at a seam they said they'd likely cover it though. To be clear, I am referring to the lower portion of the seat under where my wallet is likely located when I sit down.

They did refer me to a leather repair shop where the guy thinks he can not only fix this without replacing the leather panel, but he also wants to dress up the seat bolster where it is showing some wear. All in all, he expects the work to cost somewhere around 100 dollars, which is much better than the 500+ dollars the dealer thought a seat cover would cost.

I'll post back once the work is done to give feedback on this type of repair (I'll take before/after pics too).

They claimed that something must of cut into the leather from my pants. The dealer said if he tried sending that into Nissan they'd charge it to the dealer, but if there was a split seam where the stitching is it wouldn't be a problem.

I'll have to get a picture of it, it's the equivalent to a paper cut though.

Here are some pics of the damage to the seat, which after the 2 hours of repair time at the "Leather Menders" shop here in Austin. The seat looks brand spanking new. Very impressive!
