crack/hole in my downpipe

For a month now I sometimes smell something like natural gas when i'm driving my 93 240sx fastback. Its not constant but it will pop up sometimes. When i first started to smell it, i checked under my car and saw a crack on my downpipe. Lately when i step into my i smell something thats not right...however i have an air freshner in my car too, so its hard to tell. I'm guessing gas mixed with the smell of my air freshener? Also i'm noticing bad fuel mileage but i'm not sure because i don't drive the car that much.

Can the crack in the downpipe be the only problem?

yes, it could have burned out your 02 sensor as well.

now i'm pretty sure something is going wrong. Took out the air freshner and smell a little gas now and then. going to take it down to a muffler shop and have them take a look at it.

Also the gas mileage got to 280 from a full tank and was on empty reading before i decided to fill up the gas. Not sure if thats good mileage though compared to my friends civic which can go a little over 300. I probably could have gotten maybe 300 but i decided not to risk running out of gas. My 240sx is mostly stock except for AEM short ram intake.
