Hey, does anyone know how paul got CA pistons from them? It doesn't list the CA18 on its products list. I'm looking to spend the extra money I got from that dude hitting me on forged pistons:)

I'd really like something with a 9:1 CR... Dee does that company you were talking about in the headgasket thread make them to different compression ratios (with stock bore)?

Also, what is the cost of these things? Some of my SR guys have mentioned their forged pistons in the $375 range, but Ryan was getting all excited about race engineering's $500 pistons for our motor! Is he just being retarded, or is that what we have to pay:eek: that seems like a huge mark up over SR stuff...

Dee, how much did you pay for your wiseco's and where did you get them from?:)

I had them custom build me a piston to my specs using my old one as a starting point. CP is pretty expensive, but they are worth it. The quality is great.

The CA piston is allmost all a 'one off' design, so they will all be pretty expensive.

Besides I would never run a $375 piston on my motor, you can't get quailty for that price. Plus you have to see if that price includes rings and wrist pins. Most of the expensive ones will include that, the cheap ones won't.

That place Dee and I talk about from time to time will do forged pistons and Deves rings for about $800. This would include the following:

4 Aluminum forged pistons - any non-stock compression ratio - reinforced tops for turbo engines - pin fitting - drill oil holes in pin bosses - knurl piston skirts - glasspeen - ceramic top coat heat shield - lighten - balance

ADD $100 for a set of chrome-moly wrist pinsADD $440 for a set of titanium wrist pins

These custom pistons REQUIRE Deves rings and to get a set made you will need to make a cast of your combustion chamber as well as send in an old piston.

So, with shipping and incedentals you're looking at about $1,000 for a set of pistons, chrome-moly pins, and Deves rings.

Now do you see why I was happy about $500 pistons w/ rings and pins....

I don't see the sense in paying any ridiculous amount of money for pistons. Why? They will not bail u outta sh1tty tuning... they'll melt just like any others. Besides, how much power are u looking to get outta these little motors ?I'd much rather spend more money on tuning. No downsides really.Look how much uk guys have squeezed outta their stock pistons.I believe they get their forged JEs imported from racetep.com (topend perf) in california. A piston should not cost alot once a manufacturer has it on file, no?I've seen some pretty powerful DSMs, starions, sr20s etc. running oe cast pistons. I'm chasing some $200 new cast pistons for my stock bore starion 2.6 now

Quote »Dee, how much did you pay for your wiseco's and where did you get them from?[/quote] I paid $475 for my pistons, rings and wrist pins about 3 years ago from racengineering in lakeworth. It was my second set since I had destroyed the 1st set in a matter of 1000miles using a stinky JWT tuned pulsar ecu (What a waste). quest is right in the event that no matter what piston you use use, it's no guarantee that they won't melt because of system glitchs, a crappy ecu or sorry @$$ tuning. I destroyed the forged pistons faster than I destroyed the factory cast oem pistons.

For you guys who claim to want this magic 300whp, but don't want to spend money in a competent tuned ecu with piggy back or whatever and are using the SMIC, well I don't care if it's an ARC SMIC or what, with the design of the CA's combustion chamber and it's combustion characteristics, you got another thing coming. This engine likes efficiency because it's so small, not like a 2JZ or a 4G63; so it has to work harder and one hiccup and you will know about it.

I've given the remedy for making good power with a stock motor many times, but if you don't take heed to experience, then god speed to your motor.

But its sooo much more fun to search! :pface

seriously though, seeing as Dee is now a moderator, maybe he can find some free time to write up a little FAQ page about making power with CA's! *hint hint*;) include your email addy too so we can get rid of the weekly "hey dee email me!" threads we seem to get so much of :rolleyes

I was thinking too about asking Dee to write an article on tuning CA18DET :)

Of course your opinion counts; that's half of what we're looking for! Seriously though, what I'd like to see (and not just from Dee) is a sticky'd thread about why each of us chose to go CA over other available options. Laying out a list of strengths (and weaknesses as well) would give a lot of direction to what sort of topic could be put together in a tuning guide.

Actually his opinion doesn't count cuz he's my biatch. So get to typing Dee! Oh, and bring me a pizza! Hehehehe. As for the sticky, if you look back in the old threads (the ever infamous SEARCH button) There is a lot of info in there.

Pizza, huh! I'll get you piece 'uh deez nikky-nikky nutz:D . To continuosly put out the same info repetitiously is senseless. Unfortunately, I can't spoon-feed every individual that joins the forum the same info over and over because I will then be stuck on stupid. However, I can answer specific questions if they are asked in short form. There's plenty of good info in this forum, but it's going to require some time and patience as well as a lot of scrolling through gobs of useful and useless chatter. So please take the opportunity to abuse the search button and if you search by user name, you will see more than what you're looking for to include Ryan's coming out of the closet:fruit :fruit .
