On my way home from work earlier this evening, on a blacktop highway. Black cows are hard to see. There were several on the road and I didn't see a single one of them. Here is the damage. Hit in the front left corner and damaged all the way to the back smashing my tail light assembly from the smallest cow of 6 that were on the road.

Yeah they showed up. No injuries for me at all, the cops shot the cow to put it down. Sheriff who later showed up said the owner(s) should have to pay for the damage. We will see how that goes.

holy s*** your lucky that thing diddnt come through the windshield!!! my dad saw some people nail a horse and it smashed right through the windshield. depending on your states laws and what kind of road it was, like say if it were a farmers market road, you could be responsible. thats how it is here in texas. ive missed my fair share of cows livin in the boonies. i almost nailed one at 120 one time, i decided to slow down at night! lol.

its wierd you would think livestock would stay in the grass. my goats get loose (ones a freak and can jump a 7 foot fence) and congregate in te middle of my street all the time. luckily speed limits 30.

if it were me id take the damn cow home and eat it lol. take my 240, ima eat tbone!!!

I will have to read up on it, it is a county highway with a 55mph speed limit here in Kansas.

here in texas it has to be a farmer market road for you to be responsible for his cow, lol. if its a county highway then you should be in the clear. i dunno about the farmer havin to pay tho. i wish you luck.

This is the only information I can find for now. I will ask the police tomorrow when I go to pick up a copy of the police report.

well like i said i wish you luck. i can see both sides. its damn near impossible to "control" livestock, they do what they want. lol. i can patch every hole in my fence and ive even raised my fence to 7 foot but i got a trouble making goat that jumps 7 foot. lol. once she gets out the other 10 find a way to get through. cows just simply push the fence over with their weight.

but on the other side id be pissed if i got in an accident because of a cow or even a goat.

i remember hearing about a guy who had deer as pets and a lady got attacked by one when it got loose one time. the owner ended up getting in trouble because he diddnt keep the deer under control.

either way its a s***ty situation. i feel for both you and the farmer. no offense but the farmers cow could be worth the same or even more than your 240.

holy crap thats terrible. glad you're ok and the damage wasn't as bad as it could have been. i see cows on the road around here form time to time but thats when driving past farms and the cows just happened to get out of the fence, but theres no excuse for cows on a highway

being from WV i hear about hitting dear alot but never a cow. That sucks hard. I threw up a little when i saw the pics too. Considering it was a county road, im gonna say the farmer would be responisble. But one dude was right that cow was prob worth just as much as your car.

Did you bring the cow home after they shot it? I mean that sounds like there could be some good steaks there, some great hamburgers too... Just saying.

Glad you're OK though, sucks about the car hopefully the damages will be paid in full, keep us posted.

That sucks. I know here in Maryland if you hit a deer or cattle on any road you can possibly get a ticket.

I hope everything works out for you. It's sad to see another 240 crashed up.

Happened last night but I already have the entire drivetrain sold, so even if I don't get money from the cattle owners something is better than nothing.

You should get something from the owner. It's their responsibility to keep their livestock off of public roadways by implementing and maintaining proper barriers.

trying to keep livestock under control is kinda like tryin to keep your girl under control, in theory it sounds good but in actuality its impossible, lol.

lol, well in the rural part of north GA I lived in for 7 years, anytime an accident occurred bc someone's livestock got out of the fences and into the roads, the owner was cited by the police and had to pay the vehicle owner for the damage. Happened twice to people we knew. I'm sure it ultimately depends upon the state and local laws there though.
