Couple Questions about the stock stereo

hey wasup guys. i recently bought the altima coupe 2.5 about two months ago.

im very pleased with the car itself but im very very disappointed with the sound system.

i was wondering if its possible for me to take the stock head unit out and install a dvd/navi in there without messing anything inside up?

if anyone can give me suggestions on what to buy, thatd be wonderful.

im lookin to change the head unit, new subwoofer and amp, and new speakers.my price range is up to 1500 US currency. if anyone can recommend what i should buy, thatd be cool.

and im prolly gonna get everything installed at circuit city. is that a good move?

Stay away from big store install centers if at all possible. They have the most expensive installs and the absolute worst quality. They take shortcuts and have such shoddy quality and I've heard stories of stereos catching on fire because the wiring was done so poorly. Try installing a speaker yourself, then go from there. It's suprisingly easy to learn how to do your own installs, if not, then find a local audio shop with good reviews.
