if i use a rattle primer on my whole car, would there be any difference in quality by using the "shop can primer" ?

and also, i have a white 240 right now...but i dont like it and want to paint it to super black. my question is do i need to sand all of the paint down to the metal in order to primer it or can i just sand off a bit of paint and just primer over it? need help...thanks

paints picky, you need professional guidence thoughIm an aprentice painter and let me say DO NOT strip the paint to metal... you dont want that WAY over your head w/ prep work, all you need to do is sand the white paint and make sure its preped perfectly before primer, dont go thru to the metal though:just a quick word of advice

you pretty much just want to take off the clear coat, and slightly rough the paint under it. that way the primer or whatever your using to paint will stick to ti.

Where are you goign to be painting your car at? Make sure there isn't much moisture. Temp will also affect it. Remember long even strokes. Do very thin layers easier to get it painted right the 1st time instead of sanding errors. Been 2yrs since I painted my calipers with $.97 can of paint and still looking good except I picked a fugly color. Think I'm going to by a paint gun just because it will be easier and quicker. Add some accelreant(sp) to it and makes the job faster.

unless your getting it professionally done i would stay away from black. black is the hardest color to make look good and it will show every single imperfection

bingo.

ebony's going to be getting a new paint job in the very near future. i thought about doing it myself, but EVERYONE that i've talked to from backyard painters to pros told me not to do it myself if i wanted to keep it black. it will magnify every flaw if it isn't done right.

what about dents and door dings? What is the easiest way to get that stuff smoothed out?

Bondo?

Bondo should always be the last resort. Take it to a body shop/collission repair and get them taken out that way.

Unless your car has over 50 dents like mine....stupid hail storm...sigh.

I was wondering about prepping my car for the paint shop since most of the work is in the prepping. SInce my car is black I suppose my primer color is yellow. Do I just sand it until I've reached the primer, yellow, and stop or keep going some more?

how bad would it be? i mean....as for the dings and imperfections...if i paint it super black, wouldnt you have to actually look real hard to find the spots? i thought white showed all those.....and black covers everything up except dust and dirt....im not looking for a professional- show-quality paint job....i just want it to last about 2 or 3 years...

well, if you do a SHINY black job, it would show alot of dings, etc.

If you get a flat black job, not so much...
