well for starters i have an 89 hatch, 5 sp, with 150xxx miles. the problems that i'm having seem to be coming from the cold weathe perhaps, not sure,

1. my ebrake light stays on, when i'm driving even though the ebrake is down. it never used to do that until it starated getting cold

2. my lap belt light stays on even when my lap belt is buckled...same as above.

3. the most annoying and frustarting problem that i present you with now is everytime i slow down or brake, it sounds like there's a bathtub of water swishing around the trunk area, i know there's no water back there i checked in the trunk, under the spare, even in the rear fenders, you wouldn't believe the **** i found in there from the previous owners.

it's as if you took a fish tank, filled it with water about 3/4 of the way and then moved it away from you and then bring it back real quick, if that makes any sense at all!

help please?!

Well, for the seatbelt light, if you feel like removing your chair or looking under it, there are wires that attach to your seatbelt ecu. Check to see if any of those wires are cut, or check the seatbelt ecu (it is in the middle console, you can take out the ashtray to see where it is however you have to remove the center console to get to it.)

For the water sound, I had the same problem but I found water in the fenders. Maybe your gas tank is loud?

For the E-brake, trace the wire and see if there is a loose connection somewhere.

i'm sure someone else on here can help you pinpoint this better... or confirm/decline what i think it might be but.... i'm pretty sure that the brake light can come on if ur brake system isnt operating normally (like low brake fluid level, etc)

... and weird brake noise i guess could sound like a wooshing from water... so you may want to check your brakes (from what it sounds like the rear mainly)... when i first bought my 240, it would grind when in reverse and also sounded funny braking.... i did a rear brake job and havent heard it since

and if u decide to change your rear pads... it helps to kno that the pistons screw in... they dont press in.... my dad, uncle, and i bent two steel clamps trying to press the suckers before we found out that they screwed in lol

just an idea...good luck takin care of it

i didnt read all that crap above but if ur brake fluid is low then the ebrake light will stay on, also, make sure ur muffler bearings are intact those can cause that light to stay on too

Bathtub of water? Umm.. did you ever think it was your gas in the fuel tank?

As for the seatbelt, check both driver and passenger seatbelt wires, underneath the seats.
