Roughly 4-5 miles. Incline or decline all the way, no actual flat grounds except for like 400ft at the start. If you're ever around PA you need to check it out. There's 6 waterfalls within a mile and a bunch of smaller scattered ones (20ish total). We had the hardest rainfall and flooding yesterday so there was a lot more water than usual today. Parts of the trail was flooded really badly so we had to climb some pretty tough terrain to get around it. Got muddy as hell and banged up the side of my left knee pretty good but it was so much fun. If you ever want to go up there, hit me up and I'll be glad to take ya.

There's a bunch of nice arse state parks around Erie, PA which is right on the OH/PA border, if I recall correctly. I want to go backpacking around there in a few weeks before the snow hits. If I go, I'll let you know. Should be an hr or two drive for you. Gotta see when my weekends are clear.

Well, you need a pack, lots of water, dehydrated food, clothes for a couple of days (if you care to change), toilet paper, sleeping bag, etc.

You're gonna be carrying this crap on your back hiking up and down mountainous trails so you want to pack light.

I'm probably going early november/late oct.

There was strangly very very few animals. I think I saw one possum and a few bugs and caterpillars the entire time. Must be due to the rain and flooding. They were probably still hiding. The mist from the waterfall was absolutely invigorating.

You can spell it either way.

possum

n 1: nocturnal arboreal marsupial having a naked prehensile tail found from southern North America to northern South America [syn: opossum] 2: small furry Australian arboreal marsupials having long usually prehensile tails [syn: phalanger, opossum]

I have no idea why it had an o there to begin with...

It's a pretty old camera - Nikon coolpix 2100. I just like it because it's small but it eats up batteries like a biatch.

Vicki, we should get a whole group of NICO people to join in next summer. For a week, it'd be a big NICO hike, I doubt there are many people on here that would up for more than the first week though.

Thanks Greg. I don't know if I'd be able to deal with you bastards for a whole week.

I was researching and trying to see where the app trail hits PA and it does right aroudn the Delaware River Gap which is about 1.5 hours from me. I can join you there and hike up to NY or CT and get a ride home from a friend. Depending on whether or not I can find an internship for the summer, I'll definitely be joining you.

Great pics. Looks like a lot of fun. I need to get out hiking and kayaking more. I have only gone a couple times this year. After I graduated high school, I went out with a friend to Moab Utah and hicked through Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon and then down the Grand Canyon. It took a couple of weeks. There were predetermined places to stop to replinish food and water and sleep and a few areas that we had a quide. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I would highly recommend taking a couple of weeks off to do a similar hike. I have a ton of pictures unfortunately I didn't have a digicam and I don't have a scanner yet.

I haven't done any serious hiking in years, basically since I left for college; but this summer I'm flying back east and hiking probably fron NY to northern Maine on the Appalachian Trail with my cousin. It should be about a 2 month hike. When I was younger, I used to go backpacking/canoeing/camping of sime kind at least once a month thanks to scouts.
