Couple things here guys... I have been experiencing a rough scratching noise from the front passenger strut when I go over a speed bump or pull in the driveway... I took it to the dealer this morning and they have duplicated the problem but they cannot repair it... I told them they need to replace the strut mounts but they think they can just fix it with some "lubricant"... ???? I told the service rep that he needs to replace whatever the problem is even if he needs to replace the suspension... any thoughts????

2- the belts have been chirping in time with the engine revs for the last week... how often do you change your belts???? The dealer said that belts usually only last about 2 summers here in the desert as they dry out a lot... do you think 24k miles is too premature to change the belts???

Thanks in advance for your advice... Dave

I'd keep on their butts...but if the lub fixes the problem than you're set.

Belts should last for 50-80k depending on the climate/hours used. 24k is WAY to soon IMO.

I dis agree on the belt, let the dealership change it. Owners manual calls for replacement at 30k miles.

Just think about how many times you've had the motor up to almost 8,000 rpm. Thats why the belt wears out quicker.

On the strut, try the lube.... if it works great if not you still have another 2 years and 36k miles, bumper to bumper is 4/60k!~ I <3 Infiniti!

24K is abnormal wear for a belt.

Thanks Jeff! I already told the dealer to change the belt as that was my thought too... the service rep screwed up the quote when he called me to change it but he's going to honor his original quote of $150.00 for a new belt... normally $225.00...

I've been laying into the G quite a bit lately so a prematurely worn belt is surely the price to pay for many many WOT's.

I left the G with the dealer overnight as he still can't resolve the strut creaking sound... it really irked him yesterday as he's not sure how to fix it... lube didn't help...

I'll keep you guys posted. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving... and for you canucks... Happy thursday!

Nice to know that they are taking care of you. Excellent! I recently replaced the belts in my G at about 32K, and after many months of WOT of which I have already replaced a clutch system, I was surprised to see that the belts were still in excellent condition. I replaced them, anyway, just because. So, while WOT maybe a contributing factor, I am unsure how significantly WOT contributes to a belts degradation by 24K.

Keep me posted on the strut thing... My g has been doing the same thing and I will be taking it to the dealer soon! I have a big list of things it has to go in for!

Whats funny about the whole thing is that when I pulled over the curb into my driveway last night, the loaner G made the same creaking noise from the passenger front strut... it sounds like an old screen door creaking when I go over any bumps... I'll keep you posted... haven't heard back from the dealer yet to see if they have fixed the issue... Dave

I'd venture to say that it isn't the strut, if the loaner is making the same noise.

I'm actually thinking I have the same creaking noise. I tend to turn the radio up a bit louder but I will go for a drive and confirm.

I was just going to live with it but if there is a dealer who will actually make it go away and truly honor their warranty-I'm game to let them fix it!

Well, I just got off the phone with the service rep and after 2 days of trial and error, they have pin pointed the creaking noise to the lower control arm. He said that he has seen it a few times in older models, but this was the first 2007 at such a young age to have to replace the control arm.

Apparently Infiniti changed the design with the new model year to an aluminum control arm so he's sending out a potential recall notice to the manufacturer. All is covered under the warranty but he won't get the parts in 'til tomorrow or Friday.

If you are having this similar issue with your G, and it's under warranty, then you should have this checked out.

My 05 G35S makes a creaking noise when I pull in the driveway slowly. Also, G35 belts do not last very long. Mine was cracking at 50K.Luckily, they are fairly EZ to replace.

Was it every bump or intermittently? I feel like mine is just now and then and also that it is only on the left side I hear it. I also feel like it was better described as a creaking noise and not a 'rough scratching noise' as you said in your first post. Again, I still need to go out and drive it and really listen...

I think I will be going to the other Infiniti dealer for my next trip...my last experience with Infiniti of Denver cost me $270.

that noise sounds like what I had from the compression rods... like a creaky door. it only happened on some turns at some speeds. check out the SUSPENSION sub forum for things like this

That actually sounds a lot more like it. I drove it today and really got to listen. Was really only at lower speeds and bumps/turns, etc... I will check out the suspension forum and see how I can spend some more money!
