How is this off topic if it's Altima GEN, and it's your thread that has no prior posts ???

Well HOT DAMN it's the Baja5T.. lucky sunovagun.

I've always drooled over the 5B or the 5T... but at <$1000 it's a bit of a stretch for me haha.

Good fun man... hey have you thought about hooking up a cheap heli gyro (i'm talking $10-$20 off ebay) to that steering servo (rx->gyro->servo).. I've done that with that my Traxxas Slash (2wd corr type truck) and WOW 99% of fish tailing is gone. It'll compensate and adjust the steering before it gets a chance to fish-tail. I drove it that way on wet grass after it rained, couldn't tell anything was going on....Then took the gyro off, and damn what a difference. I couldn't keep it going straight if I touched the throttle one bit haha without over correcting the steering myself. Cool part is you can drift a lot easier that way with practice (like the $100 D-box rip off they sell in them HPI on road drift cars).

hahah ya man the baja is AWESOME, and in the 5 or so years i've been in hobby grade r/c, thats the best $1100 i've ever spent on the hobby.

I really like the slash too! the scale look is so cool and I think thats (meaning scale) is the future of the hobby and what better way to advance the hobby than to make it more real looking.

I do like the idea of the d-box more for on-road applications and being able to make drifting look sooooo easy, but to me that is half the fun of driving the baja. To be right on the edge of carnage lol I'm not new to the hobby and the smaller scale stuff is awesome for jumping 15 in the air or just bash the crap out of, but the baja really requires skill to drive and that is why I LOVE it lol

I started out with nitros, in early 04' with a traxxas s-maxx 2.5 That thing was sooo fun, I spent all my allowance on parts and stuff, I really wish I wouldn't have sold it. :-(

anyway to make a long story short, bought a traxxas jato 2.5 about a year later, then tried some electrics, Rustler, stampede (now brushless), bought a Revo 2.5 about a year after it's debut...that was such an innovative truck in the r/c world.

moving on....associated rc18b, HPI drift car, picked up a vintage (1998 version) stamepede just for kicks off a kid down the street, HPI savage 25 for about a month before I got rid of it. Spring of 08 bought a new Revo 3.3 and modded it for racing but never raced lol

blah blah sold a few, bought a few, then in spring of 09' decided to take the plunge and get the 5T and my r/c world changed in such a bad@$$ way lol

So currently my garage consists of...

Nitro Revo 3.3Electric stampede (brushless)Electric rustlerVintage electric pedehpi e-10 drift carrc18band the almighty Baja lol

I could go on forever and get really nerdy so I'll stop here, but if anyone is interested or has questions just ask. I'm happy to get people involved in the hobby, with just a little know how it can be such a fun hobby.

i've got tons of pictures and videos if anyone wants to see

Haha that's pretty cool man. It really does seem like most people wet their feet with the Traxxas brand.

And I agree, the more scale the models look, the better it gets attention, and looks that much nicer/real too.

I've been into the hobby since over 6 years now (the hobby level stuff at least).

A quick list before I head out:

- Traxxas E.Rustler - 2wd stadium truck - old school chassis (brushless, and now in pieces)- Traxxas Bandit - 2wd buggy- old school chassis (Novak 3.5R brushless, 60+ mph!!)- Traxxas E-Maxx - 4x4 (previous model) Mamba Max + Feigao 8XL motor + 3s li-poly- Traxxas Slash - 2wd desert truck - (bought roller off ebay and built up, brushless)- Vintage Traxxas Nitro Hawk w/ Pro .15 engine ($23 off another guy haha) had to rebuilt but then later replace stock engine with Pro .15.

- Losi Mini-T 1/16th - (Mamba brushless)- Sportwerks Recoil 1/14th (onroad - now brushless)

- RC18T - given away to friend (meh - too much slack in steering)

- CEN MT2 nitro 4wd monster truck

Air:- Blade CP heli (sold)- Slo-V plane (brushless now - near vertical takes off haha)- Micro Whizz - brushless- blah blah forgot a few others

haha thats awesome CoupeVQ35CVT. They are SO fast lol

I've only been on offroad guy, and the drift is the only on-road i've ever had.

and yes, phenom. It's fun as hell lol I'll tell my bro that he did a good job taping.

I think my favorite part is from 6:13 -7:10. If you guys don't want to watch the full 8 min. vid def. check that section out, it's my favorite aspect of driving the baja. The way it looks soooo bad@$$ drifting

Yeah I've always been an off-roader at heart too, but dipped a little into the touring cars (the Recoil and for a short time a TC4 off ebay) just for some speed fun/testing.

I think my E-Maxx and the Slash have been the toughest most fun r/c I have had to date. I've literally jumped, tumbled and rolled over end to end both those trucks with minimal damage to anything but suspension or shock towers. Haha.. man I need to charge 'em up again it's been almost 8 months! My li-poly battery is puffed up.. need a new one haha.

Yah I really want to get a Baja5 B or T... I liked the Nitro Hawk but the crappy tuning it held just took the fun out of it each time. Gassers sound like so much less hassle than Nitro. hehe. *drool* I get what you mean about the challenge to drive the larger trucks, I'm sure it's much more fun knowing you pulled off the drift/recovery without gyro assistance.

Ya, traxxas electrics are so durable and if you replace broken parts with stock parts it's cheap as dirt to fix. the 1/5 scale is sooo much more convenient. I've had it since early 09' and I haven't touched the carb settings. The only thing i've done is clean the air filter every 3-4 tanks. Which btw is more than 2-3 HOURS of run time!!

it always starts on about the 3rd pull, in 95 degree weather and 40 degree weather. I made some snow chains for it so next time it snows I'm confident that it will be just as easy to start.

if you ever get the chance...BUY IT NOW! lol

Hehe sweet truck man. Yah I actually drove over to the Hobbytown near my place today. Haven't been there in months, just to see if they had the 5B there.. at least I could drool over it.

Definitely tough models them Traxxas, slap on some RPM parts and they're good to go!

Wow man that carb sounds like a breeze to deal with, then again it makes sense. I've never touched the carb settings on my lawnmower (who does really?) which is a similar engine so why not the same reliability in an r/c truck?

The only thing I'd miss though with a gasser is the unique sound that a Nitro engine has - sure it sounds like a mosquito but it's just got that high pitch hi-rev sound you can't seem to get with the gas engines. I hear they make some after market exhaust for the 5B though... anything worth getting for the sound at least?

BTW I've seen deals on ebay for "clones" of the Baja cars, wonder if they're worth paying $400-500 for.. hmm.

ya, nothing like the smell of burning nitro fuel lol

lol i've seen some clones run and they seem fine.....I guess I would then depend on durability and customer support.

and yes there is an exhaust worth buying for the sound lol and it actually turns the baja into a whole other animal. from what I understand the stock exhaust is as restrictive as a mini van, but when you add just a pipe it can be insane.

here is a stock baja 5t with a jet pro pipe lol it's soo loud

That Jet-pro pipe sounds much closer to what a bigger nitro engine would be like, pretty cool. It's got that certain note to it.
