hey all.

how do i tell if my j has hicas? also i was trying to remove my stereo, and got the 2 screws out on the bottom of the wood trim in the center console but couldnt seem to get the top of the trim free so i can remove the factory head unit. is there a certain way to get the top free? as i stoped before i broke it. another thing, my transmission doesnt want to shift on its own? i have to hit the gas then let off for it to shift to the next gear, and i have to do that to get through all the gears. downshifting im assuming is fine. what could that be? i was thinking i need to change tha transmission filter and fluid and replace with mobil synthetic and lucas fluid?? i really appriciate your help

after removing the two screws, the wood trim just snaps out, pull as close to the top of the trim as possible and pull straight out.

As far as I know, and I could be wrong as I'm new to the J30 by about a week. But, I think only the J30t had HICAS.

The touring model had a T behind the J30 name on the trunk of the car, see if you can see any adhesive residue where the T might have been, also I noticed that you have a rear trunk spoiler on your car and if I am not mistaken only touring models came with that. they also had different suspensions, and thats the only way I know how to identify them apart.

Just crawl under the rear of the car and look for anything that looks like power steering hoses back there. Should have 2 hoses (iirc) and has the little hydraulic cylinders back there also.

It only came on the 93 and 94 t models. The only outside visual difference between the t and non t models was the tail fin, t badge on trunk, and the forged wheels. (which you obviously don't have anymore)

I have the same shifting problem when it rains heavily...I was told it's possibly a connection between the transmission and the computer.

I havent had the time to crawl under and look, and it's very intermittent so it hasnt been a big deal.

If they're (not there) the same wheels as in my sig picture, then that's the t wheels.

Those are not the t wheels. You might have a non t model that someone added the tail fin to.

-- Get a piggy bank, and start saving for a transmission rebuild. My buddy I told you about rebuilt mine before I owned it (he's the younger bro of the previous owner). Pretty good prices down there too, they are just south of the county line so overhead is lower, lemme know if you want me to get a quote for you. GL.
