So recently when I start my car, the engine makes the kuh kuh kuh sound and than doesn't turn over. If i try it again it usually starts the second time. When I do this it smells very strong like gas under the hood and sometimes burning. This has me terrified after hearing about the 2.5 having engine fires. I already put my stock intake back on and having it towed to the dealership tomorrow morning. Anyone ever hear of this problem?

You might have a dead battery.

Could be a bad battery though...from the sound of it, the starter is cranking, but there isn't enough power to turn the engine over...

Whether or not you get a free battery depends on the warranty of the battery or the place you bought it from. If the battery is only 3 months old and it has managed to become fully discharged the either the battery is defective, you have a problem with your alternator/charging system or you have an immense drain that is overcoming your alternator.

These are the electronics installed on my car after market, could this be enough to drain the battery? I have 2 amps, when the volume is way up they are pushing 500 watts together. I have an aftermarket head unit with bluetooth ipod adapter and backup cam. I have an aftermarket viper 2 way alarm. HID headlights. I did have my gps plugged into the always on plug last week but i since took it out and the car has ran fine. I also have escort zr3 laser jammers.

Damn, you are running a lot of electrical equipment. Is this on the OEM battery? I would suggest getting an Optima or something better.

You have a battery cap? Probably need one with all your audio setup.

that's a lot of stuff runnign off of a regular battery... i would suggest you get a deep discharge battery for your main battery, and run your audio equipment off of something like a BATCAP 400 or a kinetic HC600 power cell...

don't even bother with a cap. CAPS look good, but they do little to nothing to actually improve electrical performance... this has been shown and supported by a number of real audio gurus (I'm not a guru, just an enthusiast)

I agree. A Capacitor isn't going to do much of anything. I suggest a bigger battery/better battery or a second one. I agree 100%.

OEM battery = teh fail.

would an optima red top work? I had the car started earlier and let it charge for about 45 minutes. A few hrs later I tried to start it and it was completely dead. This wouldn't be because of my audio equipment as none of it was on. This is not an OEM battery, i replaced that a few months ago, this is a battery i got from sears, called diehard.

Redtops are nice, but expensive.

Did you verify that it was actually charging?

Are you sure that you don't have a loose, frayed or rusted ground? You may be able to start the car because the booster battery is providing a good ground. Check the battery to starter ground and the main chassis grounds.

turns out it was a loose battery terminal. Thanks for all the suggestions.
