I stupidly wrecked my Ninja 250R motorcycle on a patch of sand & gravel last week and am in a knee brace for a while. Since I own the 2.5 6MT I won't be able to drive my Coupe until I get a hinged brace in a week or so that allows me to bend my left leg. Is there anything I should/could do to prevent the battery from running down in the meantime? Would starting it every few days and letting it run for a while be a good thing or a bad thing?Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should have absolutely no problems with your battery running down in a week, 2 week or months time.

Starting it up and letting it run for a bit may draw more power from the battery than what it would be charged. Just make sure you don't leave any lights on.

Well I took my car to the nissan body shop and after a month of it being there, my battery died. Didn't know that if the battery is dying the trunk wont' pop open all the way. Even though the doors unlocked with now problems.

From my experience with body shops, they tend to move cars around a lot. That means starting it, driving it very little, and turning it off; maybe several times every day. Over a month, that will definitely kill a battery.

wen your car turns on the battery is used slightly but the alternator helps it charge... letting your car sit untouched will drain your battery. turn the car if you would like once a day... but in one week, you're battery won't die unless its already old. when I wrecked my 2000 altima I turned the car on twice a week for six months while I worked on the body, never had a problem. dealerships (nto all) have people to go around turning on all the cars so that the battery remains fresh. ... just take care of your leg, and warm the car up in the middle of the week... you'll be good.

If you're worried, you could try the Battery Tender Plus, commonly used on motorcycles. It's an intelligent trickle charger, and you can hook it up and forget it..

I used one on my last car when I went on vacations, and the battery lasted 10 years. Of course YMMV, and it did start with a 7-year warranty.

Be careful on that bike. Those Ninja 250's are a handful!

Battery Tender Plus. I actually have one of those for my bike, but wasn't sure if it had enough amps for the car. I had heard that starting the car without moving it would only drain it and it had to be driven to charge the battery. Thanks for setting me straight guys!
