Hi, all, my name is Daniel & I just got a vert. I'll put up pics when its nice. Anyways, I was looking at the door pillar removal thread and i was wondering if I could just get coupe doors instead of cutting the pillars out.

I am planning on repainting the car, so i think that would be much easier. However, I am worried about wiring, fitment, and other issues. Do the coupe doors just bolt on, or does any custom work have to be done?

Thanks,Daniel

Lotsa custom work to be done. Actually, putting on coupe doors REQUIRES the pillar removal article, as you need to relocate the seatbelts since coupey doors don't have em in the door. I suppose you could rig up a harness instead, maybe.

But yea, as long as the door is auto windows/locks, all fitment should be just fine. There's quite a few guys that have done door swap, and they can help you more. Door swap is too complex for me and my anorexic tool kit, so I just live with my messy door panels and all.

So who are these guys that have swapped the doors? Money is not THAT big of an issue, so if swapping the doors is easier, then I'd rather do that. Otherwise, i suppose i could try the pillar removal. Thanks for the quick reply

Swapping the doors is FAR easier.

Remove the front bumper, fenders, and doors, and go at it.

Make sure to read my pillar-removal article to take care of the seatbelts.

Swapping the doors is easier if you can find ones you don't have to repaint. It's kind of a PITA either way.

If I had to do it again, I'd consider putting manual window doors in and foregoing power windows and locks.

Yeah I have a fastback for extra parts. I have cut out the pillars already but I plan on swapping the doors because they are manual windows and locks. I dont like the fact that the passenger side unlocks automatically with the driver side.

so aside from having to rig up a new seat belt getting non vert doors is pretty easy? also can it be from any s13 or does it matter if its coupe or hatch? plus if i wanted manual windows would that be a problem?

Coupe and Hatch have identical doors.

manual windows will be easier than rewiring for power windows.

I'm planning to do a door swap myself. This way I can keep the 'vert doors in case I ever want to sell the car again.. Then the new buyer can decide what they want (pillars or no pillars).

door swap is on the to-do list, right after harness bar/harnesses...

Eikon, not a bad idea, though some how, I think the door mod will be closest thing to stock mod on my car after its all said and done...

I was thinking about this the other day. It will be easier, but remember that you need to either keep your power window switches on the car (they could probably be tucked into the kick panel) or modify the harness.

If the switches are not on the car, the 1/4 windows do not work. The whole power window harness is linked together through the master switch.

Good idea on keeping the original doors, Eikon. Wish I had the space to do that.

Excellent point! I didn't even think of that! I complete forgot about the rear windows.

If you put power coupe/hatch doors on, you will need to completely disconnect your door wiring harness, pull it from the door, and then pull it into the new door and reconnect it. I'm not sure if the connectors will fit through the hole in the door or not. The connector for the main power window switch is pretty big. If they don't fit, you may have to cut wiring and reconnect it when the new doors are on. Someone like madcowvert who has actually done the door swap would know for sure.

Thanks for the compliment.

I did a door swap and he's right you need to take the door harness form your convertible because the coupe/fastback and swicth them. the reason being that coupe/fastback ones wont plug into the interior harness of your vert.

Hey Madcowvert. Are you saying that you need to take the power window wiring harness from the coupe/fastback door and put it on my convertible? I don't really get what you're saying...

both doors have a harness on themand they plug into the main interior harness in two points. one is by the driver fuse box and the other is on top of the glove box.

they harness that you need to remove is the one on the door. it's what plugs into the speaker, power window, window motor and etc.

and the whole reason they need to be swicthed is because of the plug thats inside the car. becuse the copue/fastback plug won't fit into the vert one.

good luck

hey madcow, i'm about to get my coupe doors on tomorrow. My question is, where is the harness plug point near the glove box? Will i be able to see it when i am disconnecting my vert door?

Any advice you guys can give me on pulling the wiring harness? If im not mistaken i have to run wires through some sort of connecting point between the door and the car right

ok, thanks guys

if you take the glove box off you should see it.. but remeber you really dont need the pulg from the one fron the junk yard the important harness is the one on the vert.

the only clean doors i ever find are manual ones. i dont wanna hack up a door and pull the guts out of mine to fit them into a manual door. working outside without a garage really stinks!!!!! i might do this weekend though cuz that pillar is really really gay. if i do i'll write it up and sticky it. my car has a lot of cancer i'm tryin to take care of that first pictures soon to come!

"hack up"? Wouldn't the only additional work be to switch out the windows and regulators? That's like 30 minutes of work.

30 minutes sounds about right but, you also have to take the beer factor into consideration. beer helps the complaining girlfriend problem. thats the problem wich can side track any small project, and it will prolong the final outcome!

simple math: girlfriend+VERT+things need to get done+money+nice day= nothing gets done, your broke cuz somehow you ended up at the mall! i can't make this stuff up! The worst part of it is that my daily driver is a honda prelude and i own a VERT that hasn't left the driveway in 5 months
