anyone have one of these?
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4 ... QAWidgetID

the dealer tried to sell us one (I dont think it was the same brand, but it was the same thing) for $899.00.
They have the same gadget at canadian tire on sale right now for $199.00

Google says they cant work because the thing they are on has to be partially submerged in water....which is why they work on boats and bridges.
My mums mechanic seems to think they do work.
Living in ontario, and not having a garage, the car is partially submerged in snow for half the year, so Im wondering if in fact they may sort of work.
Anyone have one, experiences, or have opinions? At $199 its not a great loss if it doesnt work so........

IMO, I oil underspray for a few years, reaching where the electric do-dads don't.
Spray every other year if you like.
Can shop around for deals, too, usually offered in the fall.
I've never known any one who owned one of those systems.
If you're only gonna own it for 3 to 5 years, don't even bother with oil spray, IMO.

I had it oil sprayed by the dealer because if my car rusts, I know I won't want it anymore. That is the ONE thing I hate and fear the most.

My cousin does rust proofing on his own time for a much cheaper price than the dealer or any other rust proofing centre. If you want to get it rust proofed, let me know. I'll see if he can do it for you. I'll probably respray it next year just to be on the safe side. I'm lucky though that I get to park in the garage.

yeh this car needs to last til my old lady mother kicks the bucket. figured she should have a brand new car just once in her life, which she has never had. wanna make sure this one gets taken care of properly since I'll inherit it. :naughty:

we will get it rust proofed too, just thought this couldnt hurt to have too as added protection.

i also read that waxing it helps protect it in the winters, and in the summer from the sun.
seeing as we live in an apartment building, i cant really picture myself out there waxing the car in the parking lot lol.
i think they have wax things you can get when you go thru the car wash dont they? do they work just as well, or at least better than nothing?

Car wash?! As in, an "automatic car wash" at a gas station  I would never recommend those; my Versa has never gone through one of those, EVER.

The dealer included the rust proofing as part of the extended warranty I purchased. That's why I went with the 7 years, because it gave me the extra's (rust, sound, paint and fabric protection).

I try to wax my car twice a year: once in the Fall, and once in the Spring. It will help keep your car looking nice and in good shape. I also recently touched up all the knicks/scrapes on the car with touch up paint from the dealer. It looks much better and hopefully will not rust.

lol. well i dont have a hose or access to outside water, so its car wash or nuttin.

nissan didnt offer us spray rust proofing, just that stupid gadget and that came with seat/paint etc protection (for even more money than the $899 for the gadget).

Wow, doesn't sound like good experiences regarding the warranty with them.

If they didn't put the rust inhibitor on the car, I would have gotten it done on my own anyways.

Try to at least go to a car wash where you wash it yourself and just pay for the water (and bring your own sponges/cloths to wash it). Please don't go through the auto ones. Just the thought of going through one makes me see swirls in my paint.

For the waxing though you could wax it at home. I waited until this year to do the complete clay/wax on the car. Last year I just did a coating of wax before the winter.
