Could USMC, Rangers,SWAT, etc have killed Osama?

My friends and i were talking about the osama raid and we got to talking about why seals were chosen instead of delta. Then we went further and thought why not rangers, green berets, etc..

Do you guys think a unit of 25 Marines, Rangers, Sfod-1, or even Dallas SWAT could have done the job that SEAL Team 6 did in storming bin Laden's compound and killing him? I think the seals got the job bc a four star admiral is the current commander of special operations and he went with 'his' guys so i dont blame him.

I agree with you though David- I would think any of the special forces could have carried out the raid, although I'm not so sure SWAT would have been the best choice. Perhaps if they had a mess of training, etc.

It wasn't just the SEALs that went in. There were also CIA operatives and Army Airborne. SEAL team 6 is kind of the poster boy for Special Forces, so they tend to get the lime light when stuff goes down and they're involved.

WD is right. Team Six, Delta and the CIA's SAD, that's the list...the whole list. Unless you're ok with collateral damage and want to include a pilot chucking a BLU-109 (not sure if the stronghold was hardened at all) or one of the various BLU FAE bombs into a residential area. But then, along with the whole collateral damage issue you've got to deal with the question of "Did we really get him" because there's not going to be much left after the fact to identify.

On another note, now my buddies and i think it wasnt seal team 6 at all since that unit hasnt existed since the late 80s. we think it was delta with at least 2 regular seals involved to make the story seem plausible so they can say seals were involved.

never heard them say that, since the militants hide in places where women & children are, thus placing the women & children into harms way. and i never heard the civilians complaining since they allow the chaos to go on (unlike seria where the civilians stood up and said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, WE ARE FIGHTING BACK AGAINST THOSE WHO OPPRESS US).

I've watched, in real time, helicopters from the 160th special task force shot down and the Rangers on board cut down as they tried to escape. I've also medivaced children that have stepped on land mines or were caught up in a road side bomb that went off in a heavily populated area.

Americans are naive and for the most part ignorant when it comes to real war. Being geographically separated makes us numb to the reality of it.
