It wasn't just the SEALs that went in. There were also CIA operatives and Army Airborne. SEAL team 6 is kind of the poster boy for Special Forces, so they tend to get the lime light when stuff goes down and they're involved.davidoliva wrote:My friends and i were talking about the osama raid and we got to talking about why seals were chosen instead of delta. Then we went further and thought why not rangers, green berets, etc..
Do you guys think a unit of 25 Marines, Rangers, Sfod-1, or even Dallas SWAT could have done the job that SEAL Team 6 did in storming bin Laden's compound and killing him? I think the seals got the job bc a four star admiral is the current commander of special operations and he went with 'his' guys so i dont blame him.

To a point... Remember this one?PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:Dave (Dattebayo) is attempting internet sarcasm.

WD is right. Team Six, Delta and the CIA's SAD, that's the list...the whole list. Unless you're ok with collateral damage and want to include a pilot chucking a BLU-109 (not sure if the stronghold was hardened at all) or one of the various BLU FAE bombs into a residential area. But then, along with the whole collateral damage issue you've got to deal with the question of "Did we really get him" because there's not going to be much left after the fact to identify.WDRacing wrote:The reason we use SEAL team 6 is because it's their specific mission. The theoretical involves helicopters, small teams and specialized training. You want to use the best viable option. I'm sure that Delta was also a consideration for the roll, the rest would not be.
Mmmm...poutine.Jesda wrote:The reason the terrorists haven't attacked Canada is because they're scary as hell after a serving of poutine and Kokanee.
I don't think that was ever in contention...BusyBadger wrote: WD is right.
then we wouldnt have proof of his demise.themadscientist wrote:A drone could have done it and killed a bunch of civilians too. We don't seem to find that repugnant anymore.

your wrong. jihad was not born because a couple drunk Americans walked into the sand-box, and blew up a couple innocent Muslim kids, thus provoking them into attacking America and the western culture. jihadism came from muslims who witnessed their women & children emulating western culture, from what they saw on tv and or the internet. if we never entered their country. if never touched them period, and simply ignored them - they would have still hated western culture, and viewed us enemy's because their kids watch our brittney spears on the internet and then dont want to participate in the strict muslim culture.themadscientist wrote:you need to understand is every innocent death generates another jihadist
it absolutely is.WDRacing wrote:For the record, no one in that compound could have been considered a civilian. We could have used any number of bombs or missiles to take it out. But we would have lacked the positive ID.
War is hell. It's the most horrific and ugly thing I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing. I've watched, in real time, helicopters from the 160th special task force shot down and the Rangers on board cut down as they tried to escape. I've also medivaced children that have stepped on land mines or were caught up in a road side b0mb that went off in a heavily populated area.
Americans are naive and for the most part ignorant when it comes to real war. Being geographically separated makes us numb to the reality of it.
It's fvcking awful...
we cant ignore it when its killing OUR people, HERE. its time to better control our boarders as i fear the next wave of terrorism will be coming through mexico. its time to stop the PC crap in our airports and searching 2year olds, while passing over someone dressed in a burqa.WDRacing wrote:What do you mean we can't ignore it? I hope you're not implying it's our job to be the world police.
