I have to admit, for a Hyundai, this car seems impressive. However, it is a Hyundai. However, is 2008 the year I will stop looking at Hyundai as I used to when one of these Genesis's blows my Infiniti away at the stoplight? Perhaps they should have created a "luxury" nameplate to get the ball rolling....i.e: Ford/Lincoln; Honda/Acura; Nissan/Infiniti; Toyota/Lexus; Hyundai/Aclinxusti (about as hard for me to pronounce as Hyundai)

Do answer your question in a word: NO.

Everything I've read about this car since it's debut suggests that it's way overhyped and Hyundai underdelivered.

Hello,I gotta give props to Hyundai for making RWD platforms. This and the Tiburon will both be RWD. That being said, I wonder what the dealer experience will be like. I know a few people who purchased Phaetons new and their stories were depressing. Granted 70,000+ is different than a 30-40 thousand dollar car. I must admit, I have a anti Korean car bias. Maybe because of the old Excel of my youth. I will not even rent a Hyundai/Kia.Props all the same,M.L

I drove the Azera before I bought my M - it was very impressive. The engine was very smooth and powerful and the interior was nicely done. With another $10k to play with the Genesis will be not something to easily dismiss. However, without the premium dealer network that Honda, Toyota and Nissan created in this country for their premium brands, Hyundai may find people reluctant to part with $40k in their showrooms. This is already an issue with the Azera accoring to the salesmen I talked with.

I wish them luck - Nissan needs a kick in the *** to keep the M on top of its game....

Hello,I know Hyundai has made great strides since the Excel of my youth. Truly. In fact, I am calling myself out for this bias. Brand perception has colored my reality. Hyundai certainly offers an outstanding warranty. Furthermore, I am sure Japanese cars enjoyed the same dubious sentiments post WW II. I will say that I would market the Genesis as a different moniker. Certainly worked for Toyota and Nissan.Cheers,Mark

HP is hp, and 375 is very impressive.

However. even if the fit and finish are up to par with reliability, I certainly don't believe that Hyundai had nailed on the handling department to make me even consider trading in my M. The M is arguably a 5 series beater, best in class handling, with great turn in, steering feel and Rear Active Steering to boot.

At best, I'd expect this Hyundai to be as numb as a Lexus ES/GS. No steering feel whatsover, with either too soft suspension. If it does handle corners, I would expect a harsh/unrefined setup, but that is unlikely.

I've been wrong before though.

I forgot where I saw the specs but this thing is a sled compared to the M, even if it does pump out 375 HP. It was spec'd at like 0-60 in 5.7 or 5.8 seconds.

A minivan with a hood scoop...now that's funny! I would love to see an after-market stainless steel spoiler sitting 18" above the rear hatch as well. "The soccer-mom on a schedule"

The Hyundia will beat and M45.................... in time spent at the dealer getting it repaired. The last I checked, even with the LIMITED warranty you have to pay a deductable each trip in. Don't know if that changed recently or not.

Hyundai should have taken notes when HOnda, Toyota and Nissan launched their luxury brands. THEY GAVE IT A NEW BRAND NAME!

Not many of us would fork out 40k for a Honda car either!

We'll see how this thign holds up.

Anyone out there admit to owning one?

I will be the first to volunteer to race it

Nathan

Ha! I think you may be right on that one as well. I would be interested in reading a post later this Summer of one of our members rolling up to a Hyundai dealer in their '03-'07 M and wanting a test drive, then give this forum an honest opinion of how it compares to Infiniti. Give ratings on the interior feel and quality, exterior fit and finish, and overall performance and handling. I'm sure the Genesis drives well on day 1, but what about day...2,000? That's about how old my M45 is, and it still feels and looks like a million bucks. Only thing is I paid about half as much for my '03 a couple of years ago than the Genesis, and it's still an Infiniti. That car will still be a Hyundai. (Unless you completely de-badge the entire car and maybe get a cool grill for it

I still can't get over the Minivan with a hood scoop

More about the Genesis: "While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Chrysler 300 and Pontiac G8, our engineering benchmarks were Mercedes E-Class, Infiniti M, and Lexus GS," said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America.

er some of you saying that honda toyota etc use a luxury brand name did that partially to avoid the tariff hits and embargo cap on vehicles being brought in during the 60s-80s (dont remember exact time that tariff /vehicle cap was made) seeing as there is no acura or lexus in japan as we know them.

its a hyundai and if its nice then more power to them, makes the market competitive, would i drive one? unlikely unless i didnt pay for it.

Never say never! I still remember the first Honda car I sat in and thought they should stick to motorcycles. All of the first cars from Japan were cheap and seem like a joke. Now look what Japan makes. Ten years from now Hyundai could be the new Honda or Toyota and spin off a Lexus or Acura.Till then I love my M.

WOW for a 30,000 Grand car it has a Nice sound system "500-watt 17-speaker Lexicon audio system", compared to my 8 speaker 225 watt M(which is a piece of downright junk), 14 speaker 510watt 05 RangeR, and 12 speaker 310Watt 00 RR. With 375 Hp it does sound tempting, when it comes out to a dealer here ill roll up in my 07 m35x and ask for a test drive. And then ill find every damn thing wrong with it and complain to the salesman just to make myself feel better.

Actually I keep seeing the HP ratings go down. I think the last I saw was 365. Give or take. And the pricing they are promoting is BS. You will see sticker on this car for like 40K loaded. Back in the day when the second gen Sonatas came out I was shocked to see sticker price 25-28k. Are you kiddding me.
