While accelerating, and while right in the middle of hte power band, the revs seem to spike and then settle back down and acceleration and speedo does not seem to coordinate with how quickly the tach needle is moving

Could this be my clutch slipping?

I first noticed it on the freeway with a steep incline, 5th gear, put the gas peddle down, then right around 4k, the tach needle starts to move quickly to the right, but the speedo needle doesnt go anywhere.

I've got a video I could post when i get the time....

Or could this be something entirely else?

Can you feel any difference in acceleration? Does the needle jump and then hold until you reach the right speed?

no, the acceleration "feels" constant/linearthe tach needle jumps, (well moves quickly) up the scale a couple thousand RPM's, and then settles back down right away,

drive then while in 4th gear kick the clutch. If you feel a huge difference then your clutch is good. If you don't feel much difference then your clutch is going.

LOL i would highly recommend against this.

just go 30mph, put it in 5th and mash it.

rpm goes up, speed doesnt = clutch bad

x2.

Clutch slip will be more noticeable in the higher gears. So if it does it easily with foot to the floor in 5th, and not so much in the lower gears then almost surely it is a slipping clutch.

I have to agree with joe on this , if you do that you could end up glazing the clutch disk and flywheel, then if you DIDN'T have a bad clutch you soon will.

By kick the clutch i don't mean start drifting.Just cruise on a straight road.step on it quickly then let off quickly.

But either way will work.

I tried something along those lines, doesnt do it in low RPMS, seems to only do it as the power really starts to come on.
