Could a malfunctioning ambient air and/or sunload sensor on a '93 J30T stop the compressor from engaging??

The self diagnosis code read a malfunction in the sunload sensor-& the ambient air temp always read in the 20F range even onHOT days -

Any info welcomed

THANKS

The sensors are just thermistors which can get disconnected, fail open or shorted [rare]............unlikely that they will loose calibration more than a few degrees. Also the input circuitry in the HVAC computer can fail, as can the unit itself.

A short circuit on a sensor is indicated by a blinking minus sign in front of code number [-21;-24;-25;etc]...........20F reads about 8.000 ohms from the ambient sensor......80F reads around 2,000 ohms 100F reads 1300 ohms [see chart in service manual]

If the ambient temperature reads below something like 40-45-50F the compressor will not come on to protect it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
