Curious from owners and enthusiasts of the Infiniti G sedan to see if any of you think it would be reliable enough, with great maintence through it's life, to hit the One Million mark?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks.

COULD it break the 7th digit? Yes. With 2 or 3 rebuilds in the process. No matter what you do, something mechanical will deteriorate. When I was a kid my dad had a 87 Hardbody Nissan truck with the 8 spark plug indestructible 2.4 Liter motor. He drove it to 250,000 miles before selling it to my uncle, Who drove it to Mexico, where he still has it, with 400 something thousand miles on it. Original Engine. Rebuilt Trans. Nissan makes their engines with the ability to run twice as long as american engines. I've seen early 90's infinitis with over 200,000 miles on original engines, still running smoothly. But if you want to rebuild the motor, complete gasket kit and piston ring set and etc... you could make it to a million. But it would take years. My neighbor, across the street has an 88 Pathfinder V6, who drove it 50 miles every day for work, and a few hundred miles over the weekends for many hunting and vacation trips. Last year, when he hit 380,000 miles, he let it go, as the engine died. He went through 2 auto trannys, but 19 years of service is pretty damn good. Lets see if his Silverado lasts half that.

1 million is a huge number! Even big rigs that are designed to be long-lasting, don't always see that many miles. (the norm is 800,000 and 1.2 million miles with proper preventative maintenance) The huge diesel engines have removable sleeves in the compression chamber so the block can provide long service. For a car to last that long with the original block is almost impossible.

I have had mileage in the area of 300 k before. Could the Infiniti do a million? Boy there are so many variables to that. I think you could get at least half that as long as something doesn't disrupt that goal. For example one Plymouth I had made it to 315k plus and I feel would have still be running if it did not go under water on the way to work during a flood. Even then it went a long ways after the event before finally dying to to the rear end. I could of replaced that, but the economics just were not there. The engine was starting to make a little noise at low speeds due to low oil pressure and I think the stars just lined up for its 'early' death. During the event everything including the engine got 'flooded'.

I think most likely you would have an event take away that opportunity in most cases. However assuming you put on a lot of miles in short periods over a safe course then just maybe.

Now if you extend those miles over a longer period then one thing I think would come into play is the electronics. While I am not unimpressed with what I see in this regard, I am not all that impressed either. What occurs at the 300 k mark in an Infiniti if some of these items die and can not be replaced. Unlike my earlier vehicles it is hard to keep going without them.

Im basically gonna push the car as much as i can. i really doubt the car can last for 1 mil. Maintenance might get really expensive, and might not be worth it tho. Im plannin on keeping the car for a long time. I will let you know in about 15 years, lol.

Welcome to NICO

I doubt it!

Anyway why would anyone want to?

I got 246k out of my old 1980 VW Diesel Rabbit when the oil pump failed. The advice I received from the independant VW shop that previously did work on it advised me not to spend the money repairing it because it was likely that other parts would soon be failing also.Sold it for $100 in 1992. BTW I had to keep a plastic bag over the fuze box because water would find its way to the fuze box in very heavy rain.

One thing you may want to keep in mind is that when you purchase a new vehicle it comes with all new parts and a warranty.Would you feel comfortable driving a vehicle across the US with over 200k miles on it on a once in a life time cross country vacation or would you rather do it with a new vehicle?

I have an 89 Toyota Pick up that My grandfather drives. It was my fathers truck from 90-95 when he gave it to my grandfather it had 400k miles. Original Motor and Trans 2nd Clutch.

The truck now has 745k miles and it is on the original motor and trans with 3rd clutch... It is the 22R motor 2.2L Lets me tell you that it still has power and is fun to drive. It is much smoother than the G at idle.

I call it the Tribute... because it is a tribute to Toyota... I can't wait to cross the 1 million mile mark.

I also have a friend that has a 05 F150 with 300k miles on it. Original 4.6L V8 and auto trans... Oh and you guys that love to change your oil (You don't want to read what is next) He only changes his oil every 10-12k miles on dyno oil!

Do you think you would have done as well in Northeast winters with snow, slush and road salt over twenty years?

Why not drive it up to NJ? I'd like to see it

My dad had an '88 Toyota 4Runner that had ~390K miles on it. It was on its original engine, 2nd clutch and 5th teenage driver when it went it. My 16 year old brother was racing it on the freeway about 95 MPH when a rod went through the block....Man that car lasted a long time. Thats why I bought my wife a 4Runner. (That car saw the best and worse of all seasons and all possible conditions!)

If I keep driving my G the same as I do now, I most likely won't be alive when it reaches 1 million miles. It'll take 83 years to do so. I'm young but I'm not that young at 23.

my 1996 jeep is about to hit 250k and has had the transmission rebuilt once... still has power... it has an inline 6 engine... it has a minor transmission leak, but is really not showing any sign of dieing. i mean it starts faster than my g35x, like one crank and its running. while my g35 takes almost two cranks. all the electronics still work, even the a/c works still. I'm amazed by my jeep and i hope my g35x can live up to my jeeps reliability.

As long as you take care of your G it will run forever...The VQ engine has been an enduring engine for 14 years now. There are plenty with 200's.
