Some time ago a member explained why the fuel gauge stays in the same place with out the key in the ignition (IGN). Could the coolant gauge be made to do the same thing?

They all run off the same fuse, they just work differently.

As soon as the ignition switch is turned off, the fuel gauge just happens to stop at whatever position it was last at when the ignition was on. It doesn't continue to measure the fuel level after the ignition switch is turned off.

The coolant temp gauge is spring-loaded - It requires some current from the temp sensor in order to overcome the tension from this spring.

No current = no meter deflection off the lower peg.

Even if you bypassed the ignition switch so that the temp sensor was energized all the time, the additional current would drain the battery pretty quick (several days, maybe?).
