At a light minding my own business getting ready to pull in the gas station on the right. Low and behold a red twin turbo 300z to my left both of us are in front waiting for the light to change. Up ahead my lane merges to the left or I can turn off to the BP. I was about a 1/2 car ahead because of the way the road was painted. Thinking I was going to gun it to get in front, the light turned green and the 300z peals at full acceleration. I turn in to the BP as planed. :chicken We'll no, I knew that with out some mods I would lose to a stock 300z tt. So, out of curiosity I pulled the specs:Performance

Nissan 300ZX Stillen SMZ - V6 3.0L twin turbo (365 hp) + AB0 - 60(6.48) 1/4 Mile Time(15.01) 1/4 Speed(98.30) Infiniti G35 sedan - V6 3.5L (260 hp) 5A + ABS 0 - 60(6.64) 1/4 Mile Time(15.13) 1/4 Speed(95.70)

There are a few other reasons I didn't try 1) I didn't have time to turn off the vdc system. 2) I really had to go 3) The intersection was crowded and I didn't want to look like a lawless idiot. 4) How do I know if the 300z is stock? But to be totally honest it was the specs in my head.Kev...

Had a lot of potential there for a great run.But reasons 2) and 3) seem persuasive.

Are you sure about this 1/4 mi times for the 300ZX? They should be in the low 14's high 13's stock.

if that z32 really had 365 hp (300 is stock) than it would run much faster than 15's. Heck they are in the low 14's/hi 13's stock.

What mods does he have on his Sedan?

roughly 15.4 for stock 300ZX twin turbo (auto).

I think he is bone stock. But looking at his numberes again they do seema bit high. The g35 Sedan auto routinely runs mid 14.s in most magazine tests.

Maybe he looked at one that was conservative, or a hi temp and /or higher altitude.

I saw go for it. You never know what your car will do until you put it to the test. I have raced V-8 Camaros at 120mph even when I knew that I would probably not win.

The times for a stock Z32 Twin Turbo (5 sp.) are usually in the 5s for 0-60 mph and in the high 13s/ low 14s for the quarter.

I did see an early road test of a 300zx TT that showed a time of 5.0 seconds for 0-60, but that seems to be an exception.

A Stillen SMZ would be much faster.

Specs are from the msn auto page. Most likely unreliable but not enough to convince me to try to race in the future. If I had the 6spd I might have been able to pull ahead with the 1/2 car head start. But with a 5spd auto I don't think so.Kev...

It would have been interesting to see how the G would do, but I think that the Z32tt would have had won.
