Could it be the fuel pump?

I have an 93 coupe. Got it about 4 months ago with 207,xxx miles on it. The cars been really tooken care of. The car runs good, but it's when I start it. When I crank it it will turn but when I let go it will just cut off. But then when I try to crank it right after that it will just turn and stay turning and I will smell gas. I have to wait till later to crank it up but this time I have to give it gas to stay on but have to rev up two or three times to stay on then it will be good. But this started happening after I reved it to close to redline to do doughnuts. Befor I would run it hard but I wouldn't rev it that high cause of the milage. But would be the fuel pump that's causen it to start like that or it's about to go soon. But the car runs smooth. Anybody 2 cents would be gladley appreciated.

Allright changed the fuel pump, still the same thing! So now I know it ain't the pump.

If you are mechanically inclined enough to change the pump, then you should also check all the fuel lines as well as the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. Also check your injectors. There is a write up on here on how to check them using a multimeter.

So I changed the plugs thinking that they went bad, but the funny thing was that when I pulled the fuel line off the motor and cranked it, the motor started. So I put the fuel line back and started again it just turn but I could fuel. So what I did next was pulled the fuse for the fuel pump and cranked it and it came on. When I put it back in same thing won't start so now I've come to an conclusion thinking I might be having leaking injectors. I've never worked cars before I have very little knoledge of them. Can somebody let me know what they think it could be? I don't wanna have to put money into parts that I don't need, just like the fuel pump and plugs.
