Ok so my Z likes to start when ever she feels like it. I was told it was my starter, so I go and buy a starter. Then im told it was my battery. I know how it sounds when the battery is dead. This is not the case here. Would it be a bad connection? I have talked to people in my car club, but other peoples ideas wouldnt hurt.

Hi there and Welcome to our little group,

Did I read your post correctly your car starts randomly?

Is your ignition lock in good condition? By this I mean key fits snug and there is some resistance to motion

My thinking is away from the starter, if the starter signal wire were shorted the car may crank but would not start as the fuel supply and ignition functions are not initiated. You should start at the top of the circuit. My guess would be an ignition switch.

If you want to get into this I would suggest starting with the test (http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/300zx/1988/EFEC.pdf) on page EFEC-119
