low compression.

145-145-155-155 across 1-4 respectively. I just checked upon starting to rebuild turbo system from the ground up.

whats causing this. I didnt do leakdown, but I know the rings are a possibility as is the valvetrain. its an old motor, KAe on 160K miles.

but Im pissed off now, and dont know what to do. I could swap, but dont have the time before I have to take of to school. Im looking for suggestions.

ThanksSteve

arent sohc's low compression motors anyways?well, only thing i could think of is cam timing off somehow if you messed with it. who knows. i have 145 psi across all with my 8.5:1 ka24de.

i think he's more worried about the varience between cylinders and not the actual numbers.

those compression numbers are about right for an SOHC with 160k miles. 10psi isn't too big of a difference between cylinders. 5psi or so can be accomadated from improper testing.

I was worried about the "low numbers." tests were done right, but with a ****ty compression tester. the reason I was concerned is that before turbo I got ~170 across all 4 cylinders, and now its down considerably.

maybe the carbon buildup burnt off with the high temps of the turbo engine.

you could also be running very very rich which would be washing the oil off the cylinder walls to lower compression. wheni had some very leaky injectors my compression went from 180 to 165 withing a day or so. once i fixed this the compression came back up.

so what are you doing for fuel? was it an fmu? it may be putting in too much fuel for your t3

I think it is running far too rich. yes, I am running an FMU, 8:1, but hopefully will be out of that very soon. My new T4 just came in the mail, soooo .... Im really excited, but concerned at the same time.

thanks structure, thats really good to know.
