sometimes i drive into the mountains and theres some pretty hills. I know the sump is in the front of the oil pan and if im going up a steep hill alot of the oil could move to the back. im on the stock oil pan and it has the baffle but im not sure. i know the ca18 has seen alot of mountains so it should be alright, im just curious if starvation could occur from driving straight up some steep hills or anything i could do to prevent it.

well the baffle is for sudden shifts like turns and hard acceleration. I could see a long steep uphill causing that.

What kind of grades are you talking about here? It would have to be pretty steep to get enough angle to dry out the sump area.

Do the CA's have windage trays? I get quite a bit of oil in my catch can when drifting.

No they don't. They've got baffles, but not windage trays. High volumes of blow by on the CA generally is the first sign of the rings going out...

check out crank-scrapers.com

they make crank scrapers (duh) and windage trays... they do KAs, SRs, and L series for nissan, its a future project i have planned to get them to make stuff for CAs ... i addition to keeping oil in a usable state in the sump, as a bonus, it reduces drag on the crank by that same oil/air 'vapor' (dyno gains of a few hp to the wheels) theoretically making it rev-happier in the process

they are very reasonably priced too, ~$100

if somone else wants to tackle this first, be my guest. i just have too many other things on my plate right now

edit> but yeah, about oil starvation.

you can buy a device called an oil accumulator (i got one on ebay, but dont remember if i never received it, or lost it... cant find it now)

they come in different sizes, but they increase your oil capacity, and hold pressurized oil in a small cell (~1qt was the one i had) then when it senses a loss of pressure, it plumbs in the oil into the pressurized side of the system, restoring the oil pressure and saving your engine.

then when normal pressure is restored, it starts collecting oil again and stores it until next time it detects anything wrong

i think moroso makes them, along with a few other companies (designed for rally and stuff where the car can be tilted to the side, or centripital force causes oil to gather on the side away from the basket
