The hood will not close.. I am thinking it is from the IC piping, but not sure...

I am using the R32 crossmember..

Any ideas?

Josh

And to quote Kamin; "Welcome to RB swaps into an S-chassis."Easy fix? You're hitting the skeletal hood support at your TB at the very least. Tear away the fire-damping cloth crap if you stil have it. Hack away at support with a small cutoff wheel. Also welcome to wobbly hood club.

I used the r32 xmember and mine shuts without any cutting. Only time I had any problems was when the clamps on the connection to the throttle body had the adjustment screws on top and those would hit, but I simply rotated them.

Take some chalk and put it on any part you think might be rubbing, try to close the hood and see where the white marks are on the hood liner. Or you could simply look from the side and see what is highest and start from there. If you think an IC pipe, remove it and see if the hood closes. Find out what hits and go from there. Dont just start cutting.

if you wanted to avoid cutting you should have done more research and realized nearly everyone has to cut the skeleton

and out of curiosity why did you have a driveshaft made? a stock 5 speed shaft will work in a RB20 trans.

stock driveshafts are only good for sitting around taking up space anyways... IE... garbage.

Kamin, I am not trying to flame a moderator, however you should do research, and this is a good topic :-)

You were right on, the clamps from the TB were on top, that was 1 point of blockage...

Second point was the FMIC pipe - I loosened the connection, and pushed it down, and the hood closed :-)

No cutting etc required...

I am one happy camper... thanks all

I'm glad you got everything to work!

I don't know how much different the R32 and R33 cross members are, but I know that my hood will have to be shimmed (washers stacked) and part of my hood was already cut out (previous owner + ebay strut bar). My throttle body sticks up above the crown of my fender, so this shall be a wonderful ' test'.

Oh yeah, R33 cross member + RB25 + S13(DE)

So, you're running an FMIC? If so, are you running a front-facing intake manifold, or the stocker? Stock BOV, or aftermarket?

Because if you have a stock RB20 swap, with a BOV in the stock location, you do have to cut your hood bracing, period. As Kamin said.

You don't want to be running around with loose IC piping, either =P

Or cut out the whole skeleton. In most stock RB20's with R32 x-members you have to at least knotch to fit the TB so Kamin wasn't lying, he knows his stuff. What exactly is your set-up anyway?

Ever dig a hole in your back yard and strike a PVC pipe? Same thing with your hood striking your IC pipping.

LOL, just messing with you man. Glad to see you got that sorted out.

My old RB20 S13's hood was so wobbly. I could see it flex up and down a little just driving down the road.

The good thing about my S13 now is, it's an SR, so my hood keeps its shape when I open it.

The bad thing is...it's an SR...
