hey im going to be buying a new headgasket for my sr build in the next few weeks, and i have some questions about which one i should get. now after reading and searching through a few forums i have read that greddy and cometic have a lot of issues with them leaking. it seems like from what i have read that apexi and tomei are pretty much superior, and also costing about 80-90$'s more. i have seen a few people building motors and have opted to try the cosworth hg that is in the price range of the cometic and greddy gaskets. now my real question is has anybody used this hg for a good amount of time and some input besides the typical "well it looks good" or "well cosworth has been making good parts for xxx amount of years it must be good". also has anybody had any problems with the apexi gaskets?

You're going to have troubles finding anyone who's been using the cosworth gasket long term as it's relatively new on the market. AFAIK, I'm the first person on NICO to bite the bullet and buy one. I think there's been one or two more since then, but I can't comment on the cosworth just yet as the motor is waiting on a flywheel and some other parts to go into the car.

As far apexi and tomei go, they are the mainstays of headgaskets in the SR world. You'd be fine with either one.

Apexi definitly. Only company that uses a metal ring to seal each cylinder. Practically blow out proof when installed properly.

Just installed a Cosworth 1.1mm on my buddy's SR, and I must say the quality was up to par with my Power Enterprise HG that costs twice as much. I like the quad-layer design, looked better than the cometic thats on my motor. Only time will tell though, wish I had some pics to share. But, as soon as we got it we basically put it right now. We were waiting on it, haha.

If you want pics of the Cosworth. go here I snapped a few when mine came in.

The icing on the cake for me with the cosworth is a link that's posted 2 posts below mine. It's a link to Eric Hsu's blog, which I've quoted a few times since I read it. He compares the Cosworth with an OE Mitsu headgasket and a cometic for the 4G63. I would really like to see the same comparison with name brand Japanese like Tomei and Apexi.

Tomei is like a 3-4 layer metal gasket nothing out of the ordinary. Pretty much the same as Greddy, PE, and Cosworth. Apexi is above all though. Its why its used by Mazworx, Hybridynamics, Enthalpy, and majority of other high boosted cars.
