hm, nevermind about the comprehensive clean-up. i don't think i ever did get an actual quote on it (the $300 was for something else) and i have no idea if he still extends the offer. You'd have to ask Dee, himself, for particulars on that.

oh i know what you're talking about now... I'm pretty sure he told me he wasn't going to do that anymore because it was too much of a headache for the small ammount of money he makes on it.

you get what you pay for... i'm willing to bet that heavy throttle CA18 is gonna be in excellent condition, and $2000 to your door isn't really all that much. You're talking at most 3 or 4 hundred more from a reputable dealer. But hey, its your money.

If I could go back (WAAAAY BACK, like my first CA back), I'd have waited the extra month or whatever it took to buy the heavy throttle one. I got royally screwed with a motor from Libero USA. My current motor (from Boost_Boy's source in Miami) however was a pretty decent engine.

Mine was from boost_boy, 1400 + 200 shipping. I'm pleased with it.

If you want a motor with a guaranteed minimum of problems, have one built. You have to remember that all of these engines are from salvaged cars with no record of how they were driven or how they ended up in a junkyard. With a motorset the mileage isn't even guaranteed. Add to that the years (remember, 1990 was the last year most of these were made new) of sitting in a junkyard and the 5000+ miles it travelled to get to you and you've got a lot of what-ifs built up. I'd imagine the closest to a "safe" engine you could get is Jarco; if I recall correctly they cut theirs from running, driving cars. That and a compresion/ leakdown test will give you a heads up on many of the internal issues.

Basically, go with who appears most trustworthy (there's enough posts here and across the board on that) and in your price range. Get a pic of the motor if you can and make sure its clean (not seriously oily, beaten on) but not too clean (obviously powerwashed). Get those compression and leakdown test numbers. Buy the maintenance parts and install them before putting the motor in. Oh, and enjoy.

jarcos is a clip from a running car? its pretty much the same price as the one from heavythrottle but it says 1/2 cuts so im assuming its a front clip. Is jarcos a quality company to buy from. Do they have any type of a warranty or garuntee that it will run. Heavy throttle has something like that. Another issue i was thinking about is the one from heavythottle doesnt have the intercooler. Since the one from jarcos is a clip it would have the intercooler.

Yes, that's me over at mr2oc. Haven't gotten my MK1 running but then again I haven't put much time into it yet.

Apparently not all running cars, but all full cars pre-cut. They're probably the most expensive, but I haven't heard a product complaint yet.

if you're going to get it off ebay, i'd wait for something from Jarco or JHot. they're widely known and reputable.

How many miles were on these when you got them?

How many miles do you think they'll take?
