Mine was from boost_boy, 1400 + 200 shipping. I'm pleased with it.
If you want a motor with a guaranteed minimum of problems, have one built. You have to remember that all of these engines are from salvaged cars with no record of how they were driven or how they ended up in a junkyard. With a motorset the mileage isn't even guaranteed. Add to that the years (remember, 1990 was the last year most of these were made new) of sitting in a junkyard and the 5000+ miles it travelled to get to you and you've got a lot of what-ifs built up. I'd imagine the closest to a "safe" engine you could get is Jarco; if I recall correctly they cut theirs from running, driving cars. That and a compresion/ leakdown test will give you a heads up on many of the internal issues.
Basically, go with who appears most trustworthy (there's enough posts here and across the board on that) and in your price range. Get a pic of the motor if you can and make sure its clean (not seriously oily, beaten on) but not too clean (obviously powerwashed). Get those compression and leakdown test numbers. Buy the maintenance parts and install them before putting the motor in. Oh, and enjoy.
