Hi,

I'm new to the site and have been doing a lot of reading over the last few day about the Datsun Z cars. I am about to buy my first Z car and wanted to get a few critical question answered before i partake of the madness.

I would like to buy a 240Z and use it as a dependable and fun daily driver. I realize that the Z cars have a tendency to rust and will require restoration. I intend to run the Stock engine for the now. I will be upgrading the breaks and the suspension in the near future.

So here is my question to you Z car owners:I would like to know what is the costs involved with keeping these cars running?

I have seen how much time, effort and money is required to maintain some of the 1960's and 70's European sports cars. And do not wish to get into that kind of a situation.

thank you for all for putting in the time and effort required to maintain a website with such a vast amount of useful information in regard to the Z cars. It is greatly appreciated.

these cars are very unlike the euro cars fo the same era, these require practically no upkeep!

most of these cars require restoration or rust repair but mechanically they are quite dependable and have minimal

if you get a 240Z it has a points distributr and that needs regular adjustment or you can upgrade to an electronic distributor ro put the petronic's pickup inside the stock housing to maintaint he stock look

the SU carbs are pretty much the same as the ones found ont he european cars, once adjusted only minor tweeking seasonally is needed

the stock dampers shoud require no dervicing or you can upgrade to a gas insert or even the koni damper insert

tires fo the era are garbage and modern tires are practically mandatory

the brakes are pretty trouble free, rear drums are self adjusting, if the e-brake gets used on a regular basis and a shot of lube ont he levers at oil changes will keep it working trouble free

also these cars were produced in much higher numbers than their euro counterparts and chare parts with other datsun models of the era so parts are cheap and readily available
