Im thinking of purchasing a KA24E and transmission from a local here.

it has 139 000KM on it apperently he said make him an offer for it.

what are they worth? what can/should i offer him and not be considered a lowball, last think i want to do is piss him off over the price.

im on a tight budget as i still am in HS.

Thanks

transmission alone worth 350... and that's jobber price.. block usually runs around 500 or so, jobber price..

for engine and transmission that's 10k short of 100k miles... I'd go anywhere from 550 to 800... it's a 14yrs old block + transmission after all.. and it's prolly been left sitting with all the oil in the pan, or worse, no oil at all..

The starter and altenator were rebuilt last summer and has brand new ngk plugs and wires, also a centerforce stage 2 clutch, O2 sensor (the only way I sell the plugs and wires is if i get what i want for the engine). I have all the surrounding parts as well.[/quote]

This is what he has to say about the engine, i dont have alot of money so i dont know how to go about offering him the least possible that he will take. theres also not a big market for this engine around here as well.

I can tell you never shopped for motors and noticing your join date i can tell you don't know anything on these motors....

I'm going on my 4th motor... for the last 2 motors i've paid under 80 and one came with a transmission... anything above 150 is too much..

excuse me, I don't think what you said applies to me.

I do shop for motors, but I'd never consider anything below 150, or even 500. and no, my join date has nothing to do with anything.

the last 3 under 500 bucks engine i tore into were in dire need for a rebuild. Fungus on the pistons, rust everywhere. It is admittable that my judgement for those under 150 engines may not be fair, and frankly, after tearing into 3 bad units, there's nothing i can say about it.

I only check shops and warehouses, because of the engine exchange warranty. I never trust the private sector for stuff like used engines or trannies unless if i know exactly that they've treated them well.

you, on the other hand, you may be lucky enough to find good motors.

Don't get all jumpy on cheap motors.. you never know what you're getting until you tore into it.

And when I get an engine, I want 1 that going to last for several years, not 1 that I have to replace within a year or so. I got paid doing the service, but repeating the same job too frequently is never fun.
