Well, some of you know that I am over 1 month into changing my knock sensors on my '99 touring. Taking my time because of my bad organizational skills

Some wise old man suggested I do this while I had the manifolds off...

In the last shot, the tech was not able to smooth out the large airspace in the upper manifold, but did get it significantly cleaner than before.
If you're doing this as a side project like me... only get the manifolds POLISHED. Porting and polishing will require that you pull of the cylinder heads too...did I forget to mention you would also need higher flow fuel injectors?? (not worth it at that point)
I think I might easily be in G50 territory as far as the numbers go... but who knows... only a dyno will tell. All for a mere $200. Being conservative... that's about $20 per extra bhp?? not to mention the money saved by not paying a mechanic to replace the knock sensors...
Safer, cheaper upgrade in my opinion than a blown setup, which will probably BLOWN [sic] up your motor at some point.
Your best bet would be to find a shop that builds racing engines. The guy I took it to has been building super motors for over 40 years... so I felt comfortable leaving the plenums in his hands.
Now back to reassembly.... :ohno:

Remember that an engine is an air pump, and if something isn't a restriction to begin with, making it less of a restriction won't gain you anything. Also, larger fuel injectors aren't necessarily required because IF it did flow more air, the MAF would compensate for that. You certainly won't be gaining 20+ HP from doing this, sorry.. :(

You're probably right about not gaining 20+ hp, but 10+ is reasonable to expect, and that's why I calculated it conservatively based on cost... in addition, I can at the VERY LEAST expect better throttle response...
