I figure this might be helpful for members considering buying a cosmo short ram or upgrading their intake in general
After testing it for a week, I've found that it doesn't really improve the lower rpm's from 0 to about 2900. However, after 2900/3000 the engine really comes alive and a definite gain in power is noted. How much I can't say, but enough to start letting me pass 3 to 4 cars on the on ramp to the freeway rather than just 2 or 3. In comparison to the other evolutions of intake I've had:
Cosmo defiantly provides more power than a K&N filter, and for the price of a K&N, the extra $20 or $30 is worth it.
The other thing I did was I bought a $30 intake filter from AutoZone, took off the stock box, and stuck it on the maf where the box used to connect. In terms of power, I don't know that I can really tell a difference. They both gave alot more power past the 3000 rpm mark but if one gave more power than the other, I'm really not sure. I would imagine that the Cosmo might provide more power simply because of its straight pipes with little to no obstruction for air flow. But if it does I can't now in retrospect remember feeling a difference.
In terms of sound, forget the rest, I want my Cosmo. The engine growls like its pissed off and your car finally sounds like it has power instead the gentle purr it once had.
Keep in mind also, the rest of the engine is still stock. I'm sure with the addition of a a restriction-free y-pipe, which by itself is purported to add 25 to 30 hp if I'm not mistaken, might increase the power of your intake as well since the engine has the ability to dispel its exhaust more efficiently.
Well, thats it. I hope this helps somebody.
