Sooooo I was checking out ebaymotors the other day and thought to myself, a corvette would be sweet. When I'm through with college, I want a 996 Porsche Carrera, but used they cost like 40,000. (and who has that money after college?) Then I checked out the corvette. They are cheap! Like 25,000 for a low mile (40,000-50,000 miles) vette. Ok, so it's not a z06, but the carrera is only slightly faster then the vette, but almost twice the price. So I figure in 4 years when college is done, C5 vettes (newest bodystyle) should be 20,000. (the 993 is barely depreciating, about as much as a 996 so I doubt the 996 will go down in value) Imagine throwing 5 grand into suspension and brakes.. it would be a beautiful car! Don't get me wrong I'm a Porsche nut. I probably would rather own a 1991 911 over a 1999 corvette coupe, but the corvettes power, potential (911's are expensive as hell to upgrade), a simple to drive makes it so tempting.. I don't know, the 911's fun will probably last longer then the vettes. My friend got bored of his new stang gt after only a couple weeks of ownership... nearly 10,000 miles since i bought my 240sx and I'm still lovin' it. Lighter cars are always more fun than raw v8 power... The base vette coupes engine is a 350, right? thats the same engine chevys been using since the ice age? I know domestics break down constantly, but a base vette coupe shouldnt be as bad as a z06.

just another useless thread...

base vettes have an LS1 347 ci with 10.2:1 compression.the LS6 has a 347 ci motor with a different set of rods and a different intake manifold at 10.5:1 compression.
