71 and 73 are different. 73 loses the chrome front bumper, and in 74 BOTH crome bumpers were deleted - value of the 73+ cars is less than 68-72.

I have seen running, original, unrestored 350 c.i. 71-72 models (virtually identical) locally for $13-15K. Convertible adds more $$$, as does the big-block and other options.

For some reason the 70 is more desireable, and the 68-69 are even more so, starting in the $20's and going to the $40's-$50's.

Restoration can either help or hurt value - I'd prefer an unrestored original running car anyday.

I've been looking for a 68-72 in mechanically sound condition for a while now. I'll know it when I see it.

Actually, I'm a rookie as well. But I am a big fan of the early 70's Vette.

My wife has given the green light to purchasing one for our 10th anniversary (March 2005), so I'm doing my homework. She likes the steel-bumper Vettes, and neither of us is a fan of the pre-68 look, so...

As long as it's in good mech condition, the cosmetics are a breeze.

a tex house of rep's(kid goes to our school) father came to school today with a green brand new-condition corvette stingray(he was driving it .5 mph too). It was pretty pimp. My friend and I were guessing on cost. I said 40k he said 20k. I dont know enough about the car so I will never know unless he comes to school again

same here Infamous. either that or a red '98+ Z28 t-top 6spd. corvettes are nice. i live where they are manufactured so they aren't a big thing anymore. i have seen those new cadillac XLR's around here though, and they are amazing. i've ridden in plenty of early 70's vette's and i'm not too impressed. they are nice just because they are a corvette, but i'd rather have a '53 blue-flame I6 vette :) (i think 53 is the first year. or is it 54???)

53.

And who wouldn't - Especially since you could sell it and pay cash for a nice 5-bedroom house with the proceeds... Probably still have enough left for that SR and 5-speed.

My favorite is the 69 ZL1 vette. Only two produced, $500,000 a piece, and well over 500hp from the factory in an aluminum engine.

Oh and can't forget the 63 coupe, that's my favorite too.. but yea definetly get a C3 with chrome bumpers.. looks incredible like the one in rush hour....... oh man that's a beaut.

Yep - That's my favorite Vette EVER. I even like the wire wheels.

I'm partial to almost all vettes, but my favorite is the 63 split window. Timeless styling, but unaffordable. Chrome bumpered C3's are gorgeous, perform great and are attainable. If I were buying one for myself, I'd probably lean more toward a C5 than a C3, though a restored C3 would be awfully tempting.

Happy hunting, Hitman

Your better off getting one that still needs a bit of work.If you want a really powerfull Vette in stingray form you should look into the 1969 427 tri-carb.They came out with side pipes and HP in the z06 range.Mine is 1974 with the 454 and a 4-speed.I was thinking about selling it but havnt made any moves to do so.LOL.The bad thing about my Vette is that in 1974 all the cars were on a big HP downfall. The factory motor only had 270hp.I had to do a little something about that so I had the whole motor taken out, apart, cleaned, painted and put bac together. We took all the smog crap off and added a bit more lofty cam.I never got arround to getting the chrome dress up kit for the motor. If you looking for a project Vette id part with mine as I have no time to keep my project going.(cash is short too)I think the last time I told some one that I was selling it I was asking about 11K for it due to the cash that I had just spent on the re-build.Id sell it for about 8K today if your interested.

Thanks! I was really into the project in the beginning. Then I kept getting promoted and all my free time and spare cash disappeared(due to the fact that I got 2 2002 autos).LOL It needs some work still but thats half the fun.Making the car yours.I paid 9k for it and put about 3k into it.Id say that it still needs about 5-10k depending on what your plans include.
