ok... so i've had this problem ever since i hooked up all of my stereo stuff... replaced the stock grounds for both the battery and the engine with 4 gauge monster cable, and have some expensive Monster Cable battery terminals. but the thing is... my negative batt terminal gets HEAVILY corroded!! by heavy i mean like after a month of not brushin it off, i got a good 1/8" of corrosion all over the terminal.... it's almost disgusting... i am also using the factory ground location which is just below the battery, and it looks as if some corrosion is growing down there as well!!

SO LIKE WTF GUYS?? is the corrosion being created by the terminal itself? or the grounding location or ****ty rainy weather we get up here in the northwest? if it is the grounding point then anyone have any GOOD suggestions as to what's a good ground? i mean all the electronics in my car work perfectly, but i'm wondering if maybe i might be causing some kind of damage to my deck because of this... is corrosion caused by a poor ground?? i'm confused

You might try a Spray treatment, but I'd bet a dab of dielectric grease on the terminals before putting on the connections, and those felt 'o' washers that go on the terminal base, under the connections would help out.

non sealed? i'm not sure what that means... it's not a dry cell battery, it's some cheapo "72 hour" battery... gonna get a yellow top deep cycle battery in the future, but i don't think i should be getting this much corrosion... it's like moss growing on the southside of a tree

ouch. get a brass brush and some Coke to clean those puppies off... get the battery terminal goo (dielectric grease) and some of those felt washers like Rex said and make sure you have a good solid connection. Other than that ayjay, it is out of your hands. It would then be up to your battery to decide whether or not to cooperate. Good luck!

it's gotten so bad that i don't think i can unscrew the connector because the corrosion is so heavy around the screw...

it's one of these:

i think they come with a lifetime guarantee though so as long as i can get it off i should be able to get it replaced... doesn't look nearly as pretty as it used to though :( thanks for the help guys!

The crud growing on your battery/terminals is from the hydrocloric acid eating away at the metal. Personal experience sez clean it up, keep it clean and treat it about every 6 months. I have a 1998 Sentra that spent about 4 months in a salvage yard sans hood, but with battery. The tranmission (located just below the battery and impact area) suffered lots of "acid burn", and even needed a new pan. And after almost five years and several cans of rust neutralizer, I still get green fuzzies on the posts...

so in otherwords... the best way to eliminate the problem is to get a dry/deep cell battery? i heard that they don't corrode...
