Was unable to locate a thread on the site concerning aftermarket rims in either oem 15's or 16's that are capable of handling the Q, quality in design, but also affordable. Any input would be great!

What do you mean by "being able to handle the Q?". You just have to make sure they are the right size. For my 1994, the size is 15x6.5 (stock rims). As far as quality, with something like this the more expensive the better. I have thought about getting take-offs from a late model Q.

Personally, I wouldnt put more than about 18s on a 1st or 2nd gen Q. I think anything bigger would make it seem a little gaudy.

A few people have opted for the forged 1996 300ZX TT rear wheels (they are directional) in 16x8.5". They permit the fitment of a 255/50-16 with a 98 load carrying rating.

i guess what i meant by "not being able to handle the Q" is for the same reason you have to pick the right tires for the size/weight of the car, really don't know that much about rims, didn't know if that made a difference.

Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s are load-rated 99 in this size.

The type of rims you get make a huge difference as not all rims can handle the Q. Dennis (aka Q45Tech) made a great series of posts on this. Search the B/S/T forum for G35 Wheels, jtesnesky started the post. That'll give you some great info.

A year ago I checked the balance of my oem 2nd set of 1994 rims, marked the inside showing where and how much weight to just balance rims [for example 2 inside/5 outside].Today checked them again while putting on new tires ........both were exactly the same location and the variance was only +-1 gram.

Doubt than many aftermarkets could stay this close in 20,000 miles.............the factories are designed for durability and at least 60,000 miles.

If you gotta go aftermarket BBS is the only one I trust

Original owner of my 92 Q had fitted Fittipauldi (Brazilian sugar magnates and Formula 1 racing fame) wheels. When recently fitting new 235-60-15 Pilots, my mechanic remarked that these were some of the truest wheels he had ever seen, and that the Pilots took almost no weights to balance. Other than some European Continentals I had on my MB 6.3 while living there, I tend to agree! Both the early Q and 6.3 are/were some of the fastest productions sedans ever made!

On my 90 Q I have the factory forged aluminum wheels from the "T" touring package. They're non-directional, strong, light and you can find them relatively cheaply as take-offs. Size is 15 x 6.5, same as the standard pie pan wheels. Some like 'em, some don't but I think they look great.

And the lighter weight FORGED makes the shocks last longer and work better. You can swap tires to a lighter [3-4 pounds] weight wheel and actually feel the difference over bumps.

That's only a 2% improvent in unsprung weight hopefully you can imagine what heavy 18" wheels feel like............kind of like when I was 21 and weighted 130 pounds now 170 and a 6 inch larger waist.

Does anyone know where I can go on the 'Net to see the 300ZX wheels on a Q? I just have to see what they look like. Also, is 1996 the only model year that works for the application?

Personally, I am looking for a set of wheels that resemble those AMG makes for Mercedes-Benzs. Any ideas?

Here I go again - digging up the old dead dirt ...... beating a dead horse.

So to clarify - on the wheels, the objective if you want to go larger than stock sizes, is to find a "wheel" that is both as light/lighter than stock, yet as strong and true. Prolly a tuff find.

Looks like for the "tire [LOAD] rating" I need to find the desired sizes and fitment with a 98+ load rating?

Ok thanks - Im off to other threads in search........

The factory load rating was 95 on the G50 Q's.

It has been remarked that more is better in this area and that teh original OEM tires were among the best.

I am currently trying to replace my rear MSW's in 18 with MSW's in 17 as I cant meet the re'qed load rating with 18's w/ going to weird diameters.

For 17's the answer is easy in size 245/45-17.I belive 17's and that size tires might just be the very all 'round combination far our cars,( for weight, looks, load rating, tire availabilty)
