Jaxxx,
I, too, was recently faced with the same dilemma. I was looking all over the US for a G37 with prem/nav pkgs. I found several "new" cars that were demos. and used cars b/t 10-15k miles for around $32,900 -- $33,000. Some dealers were charging up to $38,000 because their demo "only" had 2,800 miles on it.
I was very interested, but then I got to thinking, as some of the other members have indicated on this post. If you had a fast, performance vehicle like a G37 to use, that was not yours, how would you drive it? As is the issue with all pre-owned cars, who knows what happened before you came around. Also, does a $7k discount justify the purchase and offset that fear? I almost bought a G37 with EVERY option imaginable from Infiniti of Scottsdale 2 weeks ago. This car was black on stone and looked sharp. It's still on their website. I was able to get it shipped to me in Tulsa for $32,900. The car had 14,000 miles. Not too bad, right? I asked for the service records to be faxed to me. I saw that the transmission had been replaced at 7k miles, along with a host of other problems. Had I not seen the service records, I would have NEVER known of these problems and be driving the car today, with an uncertain future ahead.
I've always been skeptical of purchasing performance cars that are pre-owned. For example, how many Mustangs have been driven like Accords or Camrys? If you were buying one of the cars, then I would tell you to go for it. But, given the fact that it is a G37 under the guise of being a "demo", I would be careful.
On 12/31, I was able to buy a NEW (140 mi. on the clock) '08 G37 6MT with prem/nav, etc.... blk/stone for $37,500 plus free window tinting. In the end, I based my decision that saving $4,000 was not worth it, give the possibly of an uncertain history on a pre-owned model.
In the end, you have to be comfortable with your decision, but, by all means, don't think you have to buy this car ASAP because it's going to be gone and there are no other's out car. There are lots of these vehicles around the country and remember, dealers are not immune from this economy. It's not like these cars are Tickle Me Elmos that are flying off the shelves!
Hope this helps!
