GN's had a turbocharged 3.8 V6. and it was hella fast. It was designed for the nascar circuit. i don't have Hp or tourque specs, but i know its a hard car to keep up to.

Here are the available powerplants (with hp and torque figures) for that scary bad T/A he "whipped" - Remember it weighs almost 4000 lbs.

wait wait..... didn't he say it had a 400 under the hood?? guess he forgot that all small blocks look the same. except for the displacement stickers on the airfilter. :) ps, a stock 400 is not a drag engine. too much mass to spin off the line. only time they are nice is when ur pulling down the highway and u just gotta go faster. and which turbo transmission is it? 350 400? they all suck. 700r4 if u really gotta go auto. those cars look nice, but unless its modded they ain't fast at all.

OOOh - I missed that part. A 400, huh? Great for pulling stumps out of the ground.:D

All those early to mid-80's GM V-8's were pigs - add to that the fact that theyre heavy (and probably not maintained that well) and I'd be surprised if the slowest 240 on the board wouldn't roast one. My buddy's '84 'Vette is even a joke.

Whoa there. The car I sold to get my 240 was a '72 Camaro RS with a 400 punched to a 406 hooked to a Turbo 400 transmission. Granted it was not stock, nowhere near it, but it was a bad mofo. In the short time I had it, I smoked a lot of people, including several LT1 powered cars and an S10 with a small block. None of those were even a challenge.

The Turbo 400 transmission is one of the strongest auto trannies out there. Why would anyone say they suck?

sure if u mod one of those blocks enough it can be nice. but it takes quite a bit. my 350 ended up pushing about 300hp. not bad considering stock it was like 170. ok maybe i got a bit carried away on the transmission. i was just reflecting on my experiences with them. i'm sure they are a good transmission. i had some plates breakup in mine, stranding me 3 hours from home. i had an 84 monte (non ss) 350 and ended up with a 700r4 transmission(not stock driveline), . after the transmission switch, no problems. 2 owners later, still going strong.

If you want to talk about weak trannies let's talk about the 200 4R. They're great if you maintain them until they need a rebuild at about 100k. It seems like no one can build them as well as they were when they were stock. PITA.
