Well I have read SO many topics about this stuff and it is so mixed I cannot come to a conclusion on this Copper Spray-A-Gasket stuff, So here is my criteria and I want some opinions on why or why not to use this. I already have bought a can so question is spray it or not.

OEM headgasket (graphite) going on a completely stock 96' s14 ka24de no plans on boosting this motor anytime soon, going to be my daily for awhile. Plan is to run this KA in the s13 for a few years while I build my spare block and when that goes in this motor will be torn apart and mildly built for a boosted d21 hardbody project ive been dreaming about. But till then I just want a good running, stock s13 DD.

SO! ... spray or not? reasons for doing it or not please post.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

Won't do any harm. I use it quite frequently.

It is ok to use Copper Spray or Copper Compound. Only place to be careful is near the cylinder walls. Take your time and spray/spread it evenly. I think that is where the do's and don'ts come in. It'll be some good insurance so that your HG will be less likely to fail.

Thanks Greg and Lobo240sx.

Lobo240 What do you mean keep it out of the cylinder walls? Do you spray the block too? Bear with me please I have never used this stuff in my life OR replaced a headgasket before. I wanna do this right the first time.

No - Spray the gasket before installation. Let it dry first.

I use it like spray paint - light coat, even coverage.

are you re-using a head gasket? Why would you put it on a new head gasket?

It's funny.... Cometic says don't use it.... but most of the shops who use them use it. The real trick is to have very very clean mating surfaces and to ensure the head and deck are straight and to follow proper torque procedures.
