Hey i'm rebuilding a ka24de, i used new internals on an older block that i honed out. i just put in the pistons and crankshaft, they are torqued down. my only problem now is choosing a headgasket, and deciding if i want to spray it down w/ copper spray. I didn't do any machining, but the head and block are from different motors. on top of this, the head came from a block that had the gasket blown so bad that it put a smal dent in the block. so what should i do? any advice would be appreciated

I would highly recommend sending out the head to a machine shop, to make sure it isn't warped and to get it milled.

I would also strongly recommend to make sure your current block isn't warped, that you can do yourself, with a straight edge and feeler gauge. If you've gone this far, you don't wanna do it again.

What's this copper spray? Isn't just the head gasket enough?

lol i didn't mean just spraying the block and the head and not using the gasket. i meant copper spraying the gasket so that it would absorb more heat, and also would help to get a better seal. but i'm not sure, i have heard both sides of the story on this.

I know what you meant, I just never heard of it before, but I haven't been around any 'regular' motor rebuilds yet. Only motors I've seen torn apart are the air cooled VW's, my boss races/builds em.

Well sorry I have no advice other than not to skimp when it comes to the head gasket. My friend did the same thing with a civic, no machine work, the motor blew a month later. He wasn't even gonna change the head gasket

Believe me you'll save yourself time, money and aggravation in the long run if you do it right the first time.
