Ok so i'm in the process of changing my headgasket for the first time and everything was going pretty good until I was at the point of actually putting the new gasket on. I sprayed the head, and the gasket with the copper spray then put the gasket on, sprayed the other side of the gasket and put the head on. Here's where things go wrong. I start putting the ARP nuts on the studs and I drop one right down the timing chain cover...well I put the rest of the nuts on but only a few spins each. The car has been sitting for 2 days and I havnt had a chance to work on it..dropping the oil pan wasn't in my timeline for Saturday.

My question is should i brake clean the head/block and toss out the head gasket or will it be ok to just torque to spec as is or would it be ok to just clean the gasket?

way beyond that unfortunately, already broke the seal to the front cover before I realized I had to drop the oil pan to completely remove it. Oh well, you live and you learn.

Just clean it as best you can (I use brake cleaner), let it dry, and reapply the copper.

What type of head gasket is it? If it is an oem graphite style gasket I would be a little bit hesitant to use the brake cleaner on it, as it may damage the gasket. However, if you are using a mls gasket go to town on that b**** with brake clean, it takes the copper gasket stuff off like a drunk high school girl takes off her cloths at a college frat party.

Magnet that bish! If your lucky it didnt get past the crank sprocket. I did the same thing and fished it out with a small magnet after about 2 hours of fishing.

Why not? It's affordable as hell, and there are many people that swear by it. had a buddy copper spray his headgasket, overboost to 40psi, and his headgasket was perfect still.

because OEM is not necessary? It's a 240sx...not a porsche. I have used ebay gaskets on my 240s in the past, and NEVER, EVER had a problem with them. We have little 4 banger engines, it's a 240 for gods sake. Fel-Pro will do him more then he will ever need. Most negative reviews are from idiot's who probably f*** it up themselves installing it.

Why bash stupid s*** like this? I see more stupid, irrelevant/"putter downer", post's from mods than anything on this forum. I see why I often times do not find myself coming back here.

More posts should be oriented like Greg's. No stupid irrelevant hearsay unproven s***.

It's all good - For what it's worth, the copper spray really isn't intended for an OEM-style gasket. However, I've used it, and it's suited me fine for the applications needed. It's kind of an extra measure of protection.

Because fel-pro is cheap part store junk..... I have used it, it has failed. Personal experience, OEM gaskets usually make 50-100-150-200K miles on a normal basis. OEM are usually best..... unless its a 7M motor.

Now I suggest you watch you tone, my question was for the OP. The fact for what car it is is irrelevant.
